VAN HALEN Bassist Admits He Didn't Play On 'Best Of Both Worlds' Tracks

    March 06, 2006
VAN HALEN BASSIST SAYS HE 'DIDN'T PLAY ON 'BEST OF BOTH WORLDS' ALBUM'

According to MelodicRock.com, the April 2006 issue of Japan's Burrn! magazine features Eddie Van Halen on the cover with the heading "The End Of The Reunion" (view cover image at this location). Inside is an exclusive new Michael Anthony interview conducted in February 2006 by the magazine's U.S. correspondent John "Shooter" Harrell. The interview with Michael is apparently a starkly honest and forthright conversation with the highly respected bass player. One of the statements from Anthony in this interview is the confirmation that he did not play bass on the three 2004 tracks — "It's About Time", "Up For Breakfast", and "Learning To See" — included on the band's greatest-hits album, "The Best Of Both Worlds". That is just one of many insights into the dysfunctional band that is revealed.

Not sure if this can be considered a dupe since it seems to have been independently confirmed by the journalist who interviewed Anthony. It's the Mods call...

MICHAEL ANTHONY TALKS THE TALK IN NEW INTERVIEW:
On July 17, 2004 I ran the following news item that caused a major stir at the time:
"Copies of the new Van Halen compilation are appearing at retail already and I'm already getting questions e-mailed in about the package. The most notable one - why isn't Michael Anthony credited on the new songs? The fact is and my sources confirm, Anthony, the much loved bass player does not play on the three new tracks.
Appearing are Alex Van Halen on drums, Sammy Hagar on vocals, with Eddie Van Halen providing the rest of the instrumentation."

A few of the e-mails I received after printing this were not backwards in suggesting their displeasure with me for running the news and questioning the accuracy of it. But...this week - the truth revealed!

Meanwhile, this from Mike's own website: "Michael, Sammy Hagar, Vic Johnson and David Lauser will be Livin' It Up this summer as Mad Anthony himself will be going out on the road with Hagar as The Other Half; part of Hagar's Livin' It Up 2006 North American Summer Tour!
It's gonna be a hell of a fiesta as a Cabo Wabo village is planned jammed with bikini girls, body builders, mariachi bands, food, drink, contests and probably some other cool stuff to boot! We'll post tour dates when we get 'em. In the mean time, check out www.redrocker.com for additional info. See ya this summer!"
The Other Half is of course the band formed by the guys to play exclusively Van Halen material in concert.

Of course he didn't play on them.

Mike hasn't played bass on a Van Halen album since 1986.

After 5150, everything's arguable and there's a good case for saying "No"...the usual 'inside sources' (which have been surprisingly accurate about things before) have stated that Mike hasn't played a note on a Van Halen album since 1986 and he's more or less since then been considered a "touring member" who gets to do photo/video shoots as well...

It's absolutely certain that he hasn't touched a bass on a Van Halen album for at least ten years now, though.

Mike is like the countries in Europe in World War II that claimed to be neutral. Switzerland, Sweden, and Ireland. Just annoys the hell out of me. How can you be neutral in a World War and all the countries around you are fighting?

Mike is like other countries too in WWII. The countries that let Germany just walk through and take over their country. Mike is a flippin mat that you just walk over. France just let Germany walk in.

Why does France have trees on both sides of their roads???? So the Germans have shade when they walk.

Austria, Czech. just let the Germans walk through. What is up with all these people at that time?

I am an American first but I am half Polish. I am proud to be Polish. Polish people were the first people to fight Hitler to the death. Damn proud of my ancestry. Polish people had to fight the Russians too.
Tells you a lot about people and countries when war time comes.

Italy hmm first half was on the axis side then the second half was on the allies side. hmm

Hitler had brown hair and brown eyes but yet he was preaching that the superior race was blond hair and blue eyes and millions and millions of Germans followed him. hmmm??? Germans....

Well gone off on a tangent.

Nor was Alex, that was a drum machine throughout the whole thing unless I miss my guess...sounds like a programmed drumline to me, anyway...

Did ANYBODY participate on VH3? I'm inclined to think that it was all song-doctors and studio-fakery...featuring the grate vocals of Eddie and Gary, though...
