I have a good friend who works for Art LaBoe, who is HUGE in LA in the music business. This guy owns a lot of the rights to the Beach Boys original recordings. In fact, this is where Roth had to get the actual permission for his recording of "California Girls".

Anyhow, my friend is the general manager for Art's company. He knows what goes on in Hollywood. I trust him totally. We went to college together in the early 90's. He would not bullshit me on stuff like this.

Yup. THEE Art LaBoe. I was just out to LA last summer and visited my friend at their offices on Sunset. Very cool place and Art is still on top of his game in the music business. My buddy started out as an assistant(gopher), and worked his ass off for Art. Along the way they became good friends...actually, I think Art likes to be a father figure to my friend...and Art eventually handed over the day-to-day operations to him and trusts him with every aspect of his company.

The only thing I can't figure out is why the fuck are they keeping this a secret? I mean, I guess we should be used to being kept in the dark like usual. It just seems to me that it would be a HUGE benifit to them to just be upfront about Roth joining them. They would be playing multiple dates in each location for sure.

The only reason I can think of is that they want to take it show by show in case the shit hits the fan and they tell Dave to take a hike. This way, the fans won't be expecting to see Roth when they buy their tickets.

I just can't see it. Aside from the obvious problems of Dave, the Lying dutchmen and the Tequila salesman all touring together, there's the insanity of not using the obvious marketing advantage of a Van HALEN tour. Hell, even the Dave & Sammy tour generated massive publicity without Eddie. If the REAL Van HALEN were only playing half the show, eMpTyV would be all over it.

You might trust your friend, but like Satan said, maybe HE got duped. I'm not buying this.... doesn't make any sense.

dude, azcardnl has cried wolf too many times. Not that I think that this is impossible, but why wouldnt they advertise?

They are afraid that the deal will fall through? They dont want people trying to get a refund if Dave backs out part way through?

The oldest trick in the book for promoters is to pre-sell tickets, so even if you have to refund the money, you still make hundreds of thousands of dollars on the interest. Imagine how much money in interest alone they could make on Dave's name...

ELVIS
04-12-2004, 05:18 PM

I am fully aware that it matters not a whit in all this
what I think. But for the sake of, I dunno, putting
off doing some more math problems, here's what
I think.

David Lee Roth is a stand-up guy if he is nothing else.
He has never lied to his fans and he's always been
up-front about whatever he's thinking, planning, doing,
etc.

Just from the fact alone that the Van Hagar fans would have
already gotten prime seats at the shows that have gone
on sale, I cannot see DLR joining this tour this late in
the game. Dave has more respect for his own fans than
that, and the only way I could see it happening is if they
added new dates for every single stop on the tour for the
DLR fans to get prime seats as well. Can ya'll see that
happening?

Well, truth be told, if Dave hopped on, I bet they COULD
sell out several nights in several cities, but it would all
hinge on the fact that the ink was dry and the news was
all over EmpTyVee VH1 Fuse, etc. etc. ad nauseum.

So, logically, I'm not believing this. I wish it were true, but
right now, no, I'm not believing it based on Dave's track
record of integrity and dignity when it comes to his career
and his admiration of the classic VH catalog.

What I *can* see, however, is people starting a rumor
that Dave might be there because the tickets are selling
rather slowly, and if word got out that Dave "might" be
there and "respectable sources" even said so, then maybe
the tickets would sell like hotcakes finally.

Basically, I won't believe it until Diamond Dave says to his
fans, "Yes bruthas and sistahs, I will be there. Break outcho
cash, muthas, and get yo'sef some fine front-row seats."

Sadly, even if we heard it from Dave, knowing the volatility
of Edward van Halen and how illogical he behaves at times,
the tour could crash and burn half way through anyway. I wish
Ed would either stay off the sauce or let someone else make
some decisions for Van Halen when he's on it.

Oh, and the old "I know someone in the biz who goes way
back and who says it's true" really makes me laugh. If you
know someone in the biz and are so close to the biz then
you wouldn't be on an internet chat board parading around
like an idiot with privy info. I think just the fact that you're
a Cards fan says a lot. Heck I *live* in AZ and I got the
sense not to be a Cards fan.

I think that there's a few hints that we may have overlooked, people.

* Dave & Sam tour was a hit

* Hagar very recently confirmed on Howard Stern that he will NOT be singing an DLR era songs on this tour.

* Van Halen have officially confirmed that there will NOT be any interviews or press with regards to this tour.

I want to believe this, I actually think its *THE* only fair thing to do for all the fans, including those dumb fuck Spammy dickheads.

The reasons this is not happening.

- This would be the Sales oppurtunity of a Lifetime. Why miss out on
cashing in on that ?
- Spammy hated Dave's guts by the end of the tour. Do you think he
would go through all this bullshit with BOV2 and photographs etc with
the Van Halen guys knowing Dave was also involved ??

No fucking way.

The strange part of all of this ??

Daves Silence.

I believe Dave has been advised to take it easy with media comments against the Van Halens. After all, he is about to go after them again in court for the deceptive Royalties deal the fuckers pulled on him...

could it be that dave will only appear at certain (pre determined) shows?
perhaps as a 'special guest' for an encore?
are they just gonna test the waters for the fans reaction?
will ed still be alive in june?
is azcrdnal legend or loser?
stay tuned, fans, for the next instalment! all will be revealed!!!!!!

From the recent interview:

David and Edward tend to cross swords in the law courts; more of which in due course.

"To this day I only make .30 per record. The Van Halens and the bass player make $1.00 each per old record. That's what the recent lawsuit was about. They got a royalty increase...I don't know, maybe eight or nine years ago. I didn't know about it until this summer."

Sure Dave withdrew the lawsuit with the option of reopening it. Which
sounds like he was promised some kind of compensation. If thats getting all complicated you can bet Dave will be straight back into court. This is another firm reason I dont believe this rumour.

Unless they paid him the differences and he was happy with the outcome ??

what if ...

VH is making this a "Farewell Sammy Tour" ?

I mean, they had quite some success together and that way, they could make it an official "thank you Sammy, it's been great, but Dave is 'ere ..."

somebody poke me, I gotta be dreaming ... ;)

Stop stop stop. Damn look at the silly way you've got everyone talking about a Roth tour when there is no way it's gonna happen? Holy shit are ya happy? If Roth and Van Halen were going to rejoin there would be a serious amount of publicity to boost the stagnent sales of their tix. Not too mention that Dave cannot keep a secret for more than a week. If Roth is going on stage he tells the world "Im here". Always has. he knows how and when to work the media. Plus I dont believe he would with or around Sam if it involved VH. Sam and Dave didn't prove to be a "hit" at all. In fact Fat Sam pulled from the tour and the only hit was Dave continueing the tour without him.
I'll tell you what. Im so confident in what I believe. (and what I believe is that this is a farewell tour with Sam to possibly introduce Dave next year with a full release cd- remember Sam said when a band does a greatest hits, its over? well guess what folks for Sam it is.) But Im so confident that Dave will not be on stage with VH this year, that if he does, Im gone. Im upto almost 1000 posts, 14 votes (more would be nice) and logged since, I dunno Feb/04? I will give that up and not return to the Army. That's how confident I am that this is just a bullshit rumour. Mark my words, and hold me to this. I will join the Sperrmy/VH links if this tour with Dave materializes. Now that's a big compromise!

Well I don't know what to think. It's easy to see how it's possible with Dave's silence, Roth songs on radio promos, no interviews from band etc.

The one question I can't get past is WHY?! Why would they not take advantage of this? It's like keeping your star player on the bench for game 7 of the World Series. They shouldn't sell a single ticket for this tour without letting people know Dave is involved...let alone tickets for the WHOLE TOUR?!?!

Basically, you're saying it's a surprise....but the "surprise" is only good for 1 night. After that first night, the "surprise" turns into a big "FUCK YOU" to the fans that the surprise is for (sorry....no more tickets).

It doesn't add up.

Now, if you tell me Dave is gonna do the second leg of the tour...THAT would make more sense. That would make this Shammy tour a "warm up" for the real deal.

Can anyone say, Van HALEN at Madison Square Garden?!

I mean, can someone explain to me why Van Gaygar isn't playing The Garden?! ESPECIALLY with The Rangers not making the playoffs and a Knick team that will be bounced out in the first round....the place is losing money.

Eh....I'm talking crazy talk.

One question, how exactly are the tickets selling at this point?

Dave is NOT a part of this Tour and you all know better than to buy into rumors concerning Van...whatever they are calling themselves these days.

I'm so thoroughly disgusted with the whole mess that I'd much rather see Dave reunite with Vai, Sheehan and Bissonette....
In fact I don't think I'd even buy the Roth Halen Reunion CD...I'll just bootleg it and send Dave a check personally...

This is how I imagine the whole thing to come down. The LAST concert of the tour, it will be a pay per view event. They will play a 1 hour set, and say "Goodnight". Then and just then....smoke fills the stage...with a purple hue glowing on it. Then the start of Romeo Delight begins (only cause that is my favorite song, you can insert your own here ;) ) Down from the ceiling, comes DAVID LEE ROTH, and he is brought to the stage singing his ass off! People are in a wild frenzy! The crowd is so loud with screaming you can't even hear the band play! Once the song is over everyone chants "DAVE, DAVE, DAVE, DAVE!!" Dave does his smile and says, "I heard ya missed me I'm back!" Then they go off into Unchained...the rest is history. People got to see their "Van Hagar", and then got to see the REAL Van Halen.

Ah....to dream is good :)

although I dont believe dave would do this and highly doubt it would happen I would be happy to see it, atleast we could see in some form original VH.

if it were true I can see after what happened the first time them keeping everything a secret. they are not worried about shows selling right now. cause if this ever happened the first time dave steps on stage with them there would be a huge buzz and every fan from small to huge that wants to see the original members just from the first sighting ticket sales would go through the roof from word of mouth but more likely press. so to advertise this isnt a must. it would work on its own.

we can wish but no way dave would do this. although dropping the lawsuit is kinda strange.

Why?

Because Munson is right.

Only problem there is, that MOST Van Hagar fans are NOT VH with Dave fans.......
so that's why it wont be both singers
This reunion DOES suck, it needs to be Dave there one last time at the helm
but it wont happen, so fuck it

time for dave to come up with some of his own kick ass music
like the DLR Band CD was great
then do his own tour again.........

One of the more outlandish rumors.

For myself, seeing Dave show up and jump onstage at a Van Hagar show would truly be gagworthy.

Dave's best move would be to stay as far away from this as possible.

Bad enough he even linked up with Sam in 2002. For Dave to get involved with the Sam Halen reunion tour would smack of him cowtowing to Eddie and Alex and deferring to Hagar. Same goes for any future Rock and Roll Hall of Fame appearance.

His career may not be setting the rock world on fire these days, but Roth hasn't been reduced to a special guest appearance at the Van Hagar power pop yuppie wuss fest.

If that were true, it would have been announced and billed as such for the marquee value.

If anyone's buying this particular rumor, PM me. Got a bridge in Brooklyn I'd like to sell to you.
