Shout at the Devil seems to be seen as just about the best Motley Crue album. I bought it 20 years ago or something and to me it was 80% fillers.

Pyromania for me. Maybe a bit polished but not so much that it started to ruin them like Hysteria.
By far the biggest seller out of that list. It was very influential in improving Heavy Rock melodies and production.

Well...Ronnie had a grate solo debut...vs. the coming of George Lynch...

Dokken gets the edge for me, but BARELY.

If it were possible to credit just one album with re-defining the meaning of the term "Heavy Metal" itself, this would be the album and the band.

Metallica owed as much to The Misfits and Black Flag as they did to Black Sabbath and Zeppelin. But the mix worked well. Or at least it did until Cliff Burton remained alive. Opinions vary after that, of course.

I only learned two songs from "Piece of Mind"..."To Tame a Land" and "Revelations"...

Trooper wore out on me pretty quickly, today I can't stand listening to it anymore.

Grate album, though, wonderful...

There was just so much good shit that going on in the metal community in the '80's, a lot of these don't really have any one answer...

Piece of Mind.

The whole album rocks from start to finish, no filler. My favorite Maiden album of all time.

Maiden...tough choices for that year.

I would say I listened to Pyromania the most...but Piece of mind was a benchmark.

This one is really hard for me. Selecting between Holy Diver and Piece of Mind. Piece of Mind is a really great Maiden album......as well as Holy Diver. I just pick Holy Diver because Maiden made a lot of other top choice album while Holy Diver is Dios best (at least for must people)

I voted for Def Leppard, but I think Slayer's first album dates back from that year. I would have voted for "Reign in Blood" if I had been sure.
There were very good tracks on "Pyromania", many of their best riffs are there. Too bad there are those bloody synths, and Elliott's voice is sometimes unbearable IMO.

Well, SLAYER ~ Reign in Blood

Definitely Dokken. Mr. Scary is the greatest guitar player other than Randy Rhoads or Jason Becker

Ok I was wrong: "Reign in Blood" was released in '86.

Looking back at the list, 1983 was a rather great metallic year.
