Joe Elliot could have been the greatest frontman from the UK ever!
And you turned into a PUSSY!!!

Actually, it's on the US version of High & Dry too. Or it least it is on my copy. Along with the pussified "remix" of "Bringing On The Heartbreak" - which stripped Pete Willis' rhythm guitar out and replaced it with synthesizer bullshit.

This video was actually made after Pyromania, which is why wuss boy Phil Collen is miming to a guitar part which he never recorded.

Def Leppard went downhill the day they fired Pete Willis, there's no doubt about that. And I find it hard to swallow the hypocrisy of a band that would later lose another 1 1/2 members to alcoholism actually fired Willis for drinking. I'm more inclined to believe Mutt Lange had something to do with it. Look at the way he pussified Foreigner. He did the same to Def Leppard, it just took a couple albums before it was obvious.

Hmmm... I don't have me & my wine on my vinyl, casette or CD version.

It must have been remastered with, "Me & My Wine" added to it.

Seriously, FORD the whole band was ready for the BETTY FORD clinic!

Burn in hell Mutt Lange!

Here's another theory I had....

In the older videos, it almost seems like Def Leppard is trying to look like Ac/Dc somewhat. Hell, the first time I heard "Let It Go" on the radio, I thought it WAS Ac/Dc.

Obviously they altered Joe Elliot's appearance a great deal before Pyromania was released. Maybe Pete (who was approximately the same size as Angus Young) wouldn't subject to the makeover?

Kinda crazy, but it wouldn't be the weirdest thing to ever happen in rock n roll.

Nor was Pete the first drunk to get fired from a band of drunks. Dave Mustaine beat him by a few months. And I'm sure there were others.

Pete wasn't able to get pretty enough for the upcoming Pyromania vids, so they shitcanned him (only half-kidding).

Read where Willis came in to lay down some solos for Pyromania, and he was bombed, so Lange threw him out of the studio and told him not to come back until he sobered up. Shortly after that, Elliot fired him. Nice, eh?

Post-Willis, Pyromania is about the only Lep album I can even deal with now. Rest of it is too overproduced and Bon Jovi-ish.

High N' Dry was Lepps last good album, agreed.

I bought High 'N Dry shortly after Pyromania and my copy is the same as Fords.
They must have reissued it with the extras after Pyro sales took off.

Excellent thread WARF!

Original Lepp rules.

I too can still stomach Pyromania (save for maybe sissified 'Photograph'), but after that, its all shit.

Even Hysteria. Utter crap.

How about Adrenalize?? "Make Love Like A Man". WTF?????

WARF

There are atleast one good song from Both Hysteria and Adrenlize...

From Hysteria, "Gods Of War"

Adrenlize, "Tonight" (Could have been a pyromania leftover.... almost classic...

Was the "Me & My Wine" video intentionally ridiculous? Because if it was, well they hit the bull's eye there...
I can't believe they could shoot that at the time of Pyromania, I think of the "Rock of Ages" vid that WARF posted as well a few months ago. That one was something else.
As for the track itself, well, I'm sorry but, I find it highly dispensable. It doesn't matter not to have it on my copy of "High 'n' Dry", really.

The hiring of Phil Collen ruined them. Some work was already done on Pyromania so his influence wasn't heard too much then. Come Hysteria and afterwards, his influence along with the cash to come with selling out changed the band forever. However I do like Hysteria and misc. songs from the albums since, they just aren't the same. Most bands aren't though after 7 years. That's another discussion though.

Collen, from what I understand, basically laid down solos on Pyromania, and went back and overdubbed a few already-existing rhythm tracks.

Hysteria is just a mess, really. Sounds almost like high tech cut-and-paste at times...

Gods of War was a good track, agreed. After that, the rest of side two is shite (including the title track).

Animal and Armageddon it were decent tunes. The whole thing just sounded too fucking slick for my tastes, and there was nothing spontaneous about any of the stuff on the album...sounded like it had been labored to death from songwriting all the way through the recording process.

everything after Pyromania to me is a joke, and is slightly better than Van Hagar. That one preformance they did on Vh1 a year ago sucked donkey balls.

WARF, Gods Of War is a great song. I like Pyromania. I only like Hysteria enough to play it when a chick is in the car. It's definitely one of those chick-friendly rock albums. Pretty much like all of Bon Jovi.

I'll admit it right here and now: I like Hysteria, and I like the Terror Twins(Phil Collen and Steve Clark) way better then Pete Willis. Def Leppard really caved in after Retroactive. They started to get a bit better with Euphoria. I'm even planning to see them this summer

Warf, to make matters worse, Vivian absolutely detests his
days in DIO. Stand Up And Shout has an insane guitar solo and
Vivian demonstrates his potential as a lead guitar player. What upsets
me is the fact that in Def Leppard he is far more conservative and
openly admits he is not as good as Phil Collen. Differences aside,
one should not care too much about who is better or whatever.
If you're a lead guitar player....then act the role!!! Let your creative juices flow! I'm not putting Vivian Campbell down at all. I've seen these guys twice in concert over the past 3 years and they put on a helluva show. Yeah, it is true that they aim away from their punk/metal roots and towards more ballad-like themes....but at least
for long time fans they actually deliver!

Anybody seen the Def Leppard movie called 'Hysteria:The Def Leppard Story'? The car accident scene is gross. Afterall, when you never realize the true power of an American muscle car such as the Corvette,
things can turn ugly.

Phil Collen's a shitty player first of all. Can't write a riff to save his life.

And what happened to Vivian Campbell? Um like he used to be able to play.

Yes after "Pyromania's" success, they re-released "High N Dry" in the US with that lame version of "Bringin' On The Heartbreak" and added "Me And My Wine" too.

He he... That's smart. They'll be a little better conditioned than if you play Slayer, to be honest. :D
Keeping certain records in your glove compartment is mere strategy.

Vivian Campbell used to fucking BLAZE with Dio.

Shit, what Viv did on I Speed At Night ALONE lays waste to Collen's entire career!

Campbell joining Leppard was just a waste of talent in exchange for a regular paycheck.

I've read many posts for Def Leppard and fans constantly say that Vivian Campbell can never hold a candle to Steve Clark. At least when Steve played, he put on a performance as well. Vivian on the other hand likes to be conservative and he barely looks like he is trying.
He has ALL this potential and puts none of it to use for Def Leppard.
Maybe some parts he does something flashy but that's about it.
