Where have all the good time gone?

What I find most sad about the whole DLR VH situation is that how so long ago some young friends got together and conquered the musical world and achieved what only a few people ever had in music. They were lived the dream and drew the rock blueprint.

I find it sad that twenty years after they spilt they can't bear to be in each other company. Can they not look past all the bullshit, money issues and pettiness and look back to the achievements, great music they made together as well as the truly unique and personal experiences they went through on the way up. It's obvious that both parties want/need to get back together and neither are particulary happy about the law of diminishing returns that seems to effect every band/performer (except the Stones and U2. )

Sure there's other personal factors in the equation that need to be addressed but surely as Dave said there should be some sort of personal and musical closure on the story. The stories and characters are just too good not to have a final chapter, and how good would that be if it was a happy ending. I'm not expecting the youthful, punchy vigour of an album of yesteryear and all parties have moved on muscially but is a 'happy ever after' too much to ask for...

It is sad, but....Roth will continue to sing and perform with or without the Howdy-Doody Mountain guys.
Those are the facts, Dave is "Up for Breakfast" earlier than any of 'em and obviously has gotten right back to music performing mode with playing that party on Fri night in New York.
      Go, Dave, Go!!!

Playing VH music onstage will heal most everything for those guys;the challenge is...getting the new tunes and tour started.
Mikey sure has bad timing going to do a summer tour with Spammy...

            No doubt.

I've enever understood this whole "family" vibe that Van Hagar fans think it should be? They're all fuckin' grown men for goodness sakes and what are they supposed to do? Hang out 24/7 and act like ten year old kids on a "sleepover?" Fuckin' queeya if you ask me?

I always loved this old analogy that Dave had about being in Van Halen. It went something along these lines...

"Hey Dave, is Van Halen like a family?"

To which our fearless leader replied:

"No, it's NOT like a family. It's like a roving youth gang and you're invited!!!"

Sammy talks a lot of shit, but one thing he would NOT do is tell Mike he couldn't participate in a Van HALEN tour.

Because he knows the fans would KILL him for standing in the way. Even some who like Van Hagar.

Yeah, true...but "The Other Half" tour is already booked. I suppose that Red Hag and his band could just carry it off alone without Mikey though.

Mikey won't be the stumbling block for CVH not getting back together.

It won't have anything to do with MA playing with Hagar, or even Roth's 'ego'.

It'll be Eddie and Al's attitudes towards Dave and the money.

Long as Dave holds out for an equal split, the reunion won't happen.

Know what Ed, Al and Mike having their management renegotiate their percentage of the royalties on the CVH records so that they got more than Roth indicates to me? Even if what they did was LEGAL, it doesn't make it any less greedy. Doubt you could find the most diehard Eddie grunt who would say Dave deserves to be making less than the rest of them now on those records.

That mentality of the Van Halens believing they deserve to be paid more than everyone else in the band will carry itself over to any proposed reunion talks.
