    U.S. Casualties Rise In Iraq

    April 17, 2006 9:30 a.m. EST

Andrea Moore - All Headline News Staff Reporter

Baghdad, Iraq (AHN) - Four Marines are reported killed in fighting west of Baghdad, bringing the U.S. death toll for this month to 47. There were 31 U.S. deaths for all of March.

The Marines, three from Team Five and one from the 2/28 Brigade Combat Team - were killed in Anbar province.

According to an Associated Press count, their deaths raised the number of U.S. military members who have died since the war began in March 2003 to at least 2,376. The rise in U.S. casualties followed a sharp drop in March, which saw the lowest number of American dead in Iraq since February 2004.

Also, one Iraqi civilian was killed and seven were wounded Monday in a gunbattle in northern Baghdad, while a series of bombs killed at least two people in Baghdad and the city of Baqouba.
