Is this pop punk crap finally over?

Anyone else sick of this bubble gum crap? I'm talking about Sum41, Good Charlotte, Green Day and Blink 182.

I think it is. My nephew is around 14 and started playing bass in a band. I asked him what they were trying to play, and he told me The Trooper and Rock You Like a Hurricane!

I was totally caught off gaurd. I think this new generation has finally come to its sense and embraced real fucking music for once!

Green Day shouldn't be lumped in with those poser assholes. They paid their dues in their local music scene, released two albums on an indie label and came about their success honestly.

And while their music has certainly gone outside the traditonal definition of "punk", so did The Clash, and nobody called them bubblegum.

"American Idiot" is a great rock n roll album. Never mind any other labels.

Green Day is one up from those bands, but they're still pure pop!

I sure hope that stuff is over.

But is it better that kids listen to this than Britney, right?

Sum41 may be getting more poppy and bubble-gummy.

Their lead guitarist, Dave "Brownsound" Baksh, has quit the band and is forming is own band, Brown Brigade, which he claims is going to sound more like classic metal.

How he ever got the nickname "Brownsound" is more than a little blasphemous, in my mind. Sure he was likely the only decent thing about Sum41 but to use an EVH term as his nickname...I'm not impressed.

Still, I thought he was a decent enough player and I'll be interested to hear what Brown Brigade has to offer.

I think they called him " Brownsound " cause he's brown.

I have a friend in Seattle who is a major guitar fanatic.

One of the neighborhood kids has been taking lessons from him (14-year-old) and is interested in nothing but old school metal/hard rock like AC/DC, Maiden, Priest, etc.

It is pretty easy for kids to see through the superficial pop bullshit being foisted off on the public these days.

I hated Green Day from the moment I heard them.

However, I must say...any rock music with loud guitars is a step in the right direction...

              Yeah I agree.

Green Day is an "entry level" hard rock band, the kids go onto better stuff later!

Offspring are the worst of that bunch, saw 'em opening for AC/DC and they sucked.

              BIG TIME!

Simple Plan, Sum41, Avril Lavigne...ever since we fooled the Americans into taking Celine Dion off our hands we've been shipping all our trash their way. Oh, yeah, and Tom Green, Alanis Morissette and Terrence&Phillip (HAHAHA).

You just can't beat the classic bands. If ANY new band tries to follow ANY classic band, they'll find it's an impossible job.

I remember seeing Judas Priest and The Scorpions on a bill, and Alice Cooper and Twisted Sister on a bill, and Motorhead and Anthrax on a bill and all I could think afterwards was "There is no way on hell or earth that ANY new band could follow that. Fuck Green Day. Fuck Blink 182 (what kind of name is that anyways?) and fuck em all. You can't beat the Old Skool shit."
