It's difficult to judge at such an early stage, but you can already here that there is more structure to the song than anything on St. Anger, but they've taken the good things from that record, speed, aggression and song length and moved forward.

Hetfield has also written a vocal melody as well, needs a bit of polishing but it's definately on the way to classic Metallica!

Imagine what'll happen when Rubin gets hold of it, hell yeah!

I agree on the need for some polishing...it is a bit rough but does sound like something I wanna hear...over and over.....

I'm not impressed with it, personally. About the only thing worth writing home about, to my mind, is the double bass kicks...

Outside of that, it just sounds like a polished St. Anger song to me...mostly uninteresting and nowhere near what they were at their peak.

Metallica's day, for me, ended around 1991 and it's been a downhill slide ever since; just the fact that Lars' using his bass drums again isn't enough to get me excited about this.

I hate James' singing lessons vocal approach too...gone is the aggression that was the trademark to a Metallica song...

I believe that calling them an average band at this point is paying them a compliment...

Call me pessimistic, but if this is what they're going to have...I smell another turd in the toilet...

I totally agree. Anyone who doesn't, pop in Creeping Death and try to remember what James was all about.

I remember seeing them in Irvine on the Justice tour. Afterwards in the parking lot, everyone kept saying "Sounds like James has been taking singing lessons". Well, it really showed on the Black album, and everything after.

Maybe James should give a listen to Creeping Death. Might do him some good.

James has said he learned a lot of his early vocal approach (not including the atmospheric shit on the early demos...the Diamond Head ripoffs) from The Misfits, using Glenn's talk/shout/sing combination and trying to mimic it.

That worked really well for him.

Between his own earlier work, maybe a spin of Earth A.D. might do him some good, too?

The song sounds to me like a Metallica shadow....it could have potential if Hetfield stop trying to sing and do whatever he was doing on their first 4 albums.

The beginning sounds absolutely killer!! It doesn't quite live up to its promise after that but still good.

the song could go in the rigth direction if they hire Mustaine to do the riffs....

No the riff comes first then the song...

I’m sorry but this one sounds like a left over from St. Anger with one exception, 5:15 =>7:25 this is where it actually gets interesting for the first time. Promising for the future? I don’t know, time will tell. I hope it will be better than St. Anger.
