    Whitesnake, Glasgow 30/06/06

A good night out in Glagsow Carling Academy, which was packed with a sold out crowd.

The success of the recent live DVD "Live...In the still of the night" has clearly boosted Whitesnake`s popularity with younger people, when I last saw them in 2003 the place was full of bald heads but this time there were plenty of women with tender young asses.

I stripped to the waist and tried to rub against as many of them as I could.

I missed most of the support act The Answer (I was in the pub watching Germany V Argentina), what I did see was alright, although they are clearly borrowing heavily from Led Zeppelin, in appearance and the slide guitar fuelled blues rock.

Whitesnake always put on a good show and this was no different.

If ever a man defined the term "rock star", then surely it is David Coverdale, who had the crowd in the palm of his hand all night.

The only problem was that the set got bogged down in the middle by self indulgent soloing. Doug Aldrich done about five minutes, then Reb Beech done five minutes, then they did a bluesy instrumental for another couple of minutes. Then half of "Crying in the rain" which went into Tommy Aldridge`s drum solo. It must have wasted about fifteen minutes where they could have played "Bad Boys", "Guilty of love", "Slow an` easy" or any of the other songs that could have brought the house down.

It picked up again afterwards with the usual singalong favourites, which surprisingly didn`t include "Fool for your loving".

The did play a new song called (I think) "Ready to rock", a fast paced number which didn`t really get a reaction, the crowd bemused by something they had never heard in amongst a set of rock radio staples.

Songs like "Here I go again", "Still of the night" or "Is this love" are those that you probably don`t put on in your house because you`re so familiar with them but it`s still a great experience to hear them performed live.

        Pretty good setlist, though, considering.

Aw, I heard they started including "Walking In The Shadow of the Blues", and Cov was talking aboot "Mistreated" in interviews.

Ah, well, at least they're doing "Soldier of Fortune" again.

Should be good in Liverpool on Monday.

Cool that you dug the show.

Couldn't help laugh, though, when you said the title of the new song was "Ready To Rock" (see thread on Most Overused Rock Cliches)

              Yeah, that`s what I thought.

It`s a surprise that Whitesnake have made it until now without using that title before, though.

Setlist in Liverpool was slightly different.

Fool For Your Lovin' and Bad Boys were added to the encore.

I think they were just REALLY enjoying themselves because they seemed to be conferring what song they would do next.

I did some videos on my phone, but they didn't save for some reason, I'll have to find out why.
