Dude, if nothing else, bounce down to post 18 and check out Bring it On Home (http://www.rotharmy.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=38054&perpage=30&pagenumber=1)

Plenty of incredible performances by Page and company there.

Two things come to my mind as i watch that clip:

1. What a fucking great band they were!

2. I can't believe Jimmy Page was once considered a virtuoso.
In terms of technical ability he was closer to Johnny Ramone than Steve Vai. But still , pre EVH, he was second only to Jimi Hendrix in putting forth the idea of virtuosity in a rock band context. Strange but true.

Utter shiite!! Page was a great guitarist! Check some of the other clips, or better yet, go out and get the "How the West Was Won" CD. Page shines live in the period of 1972-1975. After that his performances get more spotty and "sloppy" due to smack and booze mostly, but he still turns out some great gigs.

You can't judge him by a song where he's only playing a rhythm accompaniment --"Kashmir" is John Paul Jones song!

I never said he wasn't a great guitarrist, just that he wasn't a virtuoso. Jimmy Page is maybe the greatest riff composer of all time. Even at his peak Jimmy had limited skills, but what he did with those skills was pure magic. But i'll stand by my statement: Jimmy Page was never a virtuoso.

I hear ya.' But I think on certain moments, like "Blackdog" (http://www.ledzeppelin.com/site_flash/audio/audio_west_blackdog.html) or "The Ocean" (http://www.ledzeppelin.com/site_flash/audio/audio_west_ocean.html) live circa 1972-73' --Page is very much a virtuoso in his blues based style.

The whole bands in great form there and that's their best song IMO.
