Chimpy Acknowledges Secret CIA Prisons Publicaly For The First Time

By NEDRA PICKLER, Associated Press Writer 58 minutes ago

    WASHINGTON -
President Bush on Wednesday acknowledged the existence of previously secret
CIA prisons around the world and said 14 high-value terrorism suspects — including the mastermind of the Sept. 11 attacks — have been transferred from the system to Guantanamo Bay for trials.

He said the "small number" of detainees that have been kept in CIA custody include people responsible for the bombing of the
USS Cole in 2000 in Yemen and the 1998 attacks on U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, in addition to the 2001 attacks.

"The most important source of information on where the terrorists are hiding and what they are planning is the terrorists themselves," Bush said in a White House speech with families of those killed in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks making up part of the audience. "It has been necessary to move these individuals to an environment where they can be held in secret, questioned by experts and, when appropriate, prosecuted for terrorist acts."

The announcement from Bush is the first time the administration has acknowledged the existence of CIA prisons, which have been a source of friction between Washington and some allies in Europe. The administration has come under criticism for its treatment of terrorism detainees.
European Union lawmakers said the CIA was conducting clandestine flights in Europe to take terror suspects to countries where they could face torture.

Bush said the CIA program has involved such suspected terrorists as Khalid Sheik Mohammed, believed to be the No. 3 al-Qaida leader before he was captured in Pakistan in 2003; Ramzi Binalshibh, an alleged would-be Sept. 11, 2001, hijacker; Abu Zubaydah, who was believed to be a link between
Osama bin Laden and many al-Qaida cells before he was also captured in Pakistan, in March 2002.

The list also includes Riduan Isamuddin, known additionally as Hambali, who was suspected of being Jemaah Islamiyah's main link to al-Qaida and the mastermind of a string of deadly bomb attacks in Indonesia until his 2003 arrest in Thailand.

Defending the program, the president said the questioning of these detainees has provided critical intelligence information about terrorist activities that have enabled officials to prevent attacks not only in the United States, but Europe and other countries. He said the program has been reviewed by administration lawyers and been the subject of strict oversight from within the CIA.

Bush would not detail the type of interrogation techniques that are used through the program, saying they are tough but do not constitute torture.

"This program has helped us to take potential mass murderers off the streets before they have a chance to kill," the president said. "It is invaluable to America and our allies."

The president's announcement, which the White House touted beforehand and asked to be televised live on the networks, comes as Bush has sought with a series of speeches to sharpen the focus on national security two months before high-stakes congressional elections.

The president successfully emphasized the war on terror in his re-election campaign in 2004 and is trying to make it a winning issue again for Republicans this year.

The president said the 14 key terrorist leaders, including Mohammed, Binalshibh, and Zubaydah, that have been transferred to the U.S. military-run prison at Guantanamo Bay would be afforded some legal protections consistent with the Geneva conventions.

"They will continue to be treated with the humanity that they denied others," Bush said.

Bush also laid out his proposal for how trials of such key suspected terrorists — those transferred to Guantanamo and already there — should be conducted, which must be approved by Congress. Bush's original plan for the type of military trials used in the aftermath of World War II was struck down in June by the Supreme Court, which said the tribunals would violate U.S. and international law.

Aides said the legislation being introduced on Bush's behalf later Wednesday on Capitol Hill insists on provisions covering military tribunals that would permit evidence to be withheld from a defendant if necessary to protect classified information.

*HR69 note:* The ONLY reason Chimpy is revealing this stuff is to theoretically stave off a possible landslide election of Democrats in November. Over the past 3 days, he has been making speeches to try to bolster support for his failed foreign policy.

Unfortunately for him and his Gestapo, lotsa people in the United States (not including Chimpy) have a brain and can see right through his lame-ass attempt at propaganda.

    What a worthless cocksucker.

I have some further thoughts on this.

    1. Chimpy seems to think that by coming clean about this, he is going to do the Retardlickens some good. Actually it is quite the opposite.

Even though it has been in the news for quite some time that the CIA has been operating these secret prisons with Presidential approval, Chimpy and his Gestapo refused to admit it and would rather that nobody knew about it.

The only reasons he is admitting it now are the fact that he somehow feels if he admits it, people will think he is somehow "honest", nevermind the fact that he refused to come clean about it when the story hit almost a year ago. And of course as I said above, he thinks it will help the Retardlicken Party.

Another thing I noticed is that he appears quite angry that he had to admit this to the American People. As if him being angry is going to somehow convince everyone that he is "honest", or that appearing angry is going to somehow make him appear "forceful", or will scare the "terrists".

He is only angry because he is having to admit that there ARE "secret" prisons being operated by the CIA overseas where they are not subject to U.S. law.

He is probably pissed off also because as long as the CIA prisons are "secret", they are not subject to ANY laws.....which is Chimpy's standard policy anway....he thinks he is aobve the law, and routinely breaks the very laws he signs.

    Too bad....secret is out.

He also took great care in denouncing "torture", and claimed that "The United States does not torture. It's against our laws, and it's against our values. I have not authorized it, and I will not authorize it."

Ok so it is agaainst "our laws". But only if Chimpy abides by "our laws", and he has proven time and time again that he does NOT.

    CHIMPEACHMENT NOW!!!

These prisons are fucking stupid. "Rendition?" WTF? BTW, this was all revealed in none other that the 9/11 Report, where they use the phrase "he was Renditioned by the CIA" no less than four or five times.

The truth is, you want to "get rid" of a terrorist and make him suffer? Then --send him to a U.S. Federal penitiary. Manual Noriega, the Blind Sheik, does anybody remember these cunts? NO! They've disappeared and have effectively become "nonpersons" while languishing in a prison, after being convicted under U.S. code while receiving a fair trial and all the civil rights they could have wished for.

Fuck this sneaky semantic, legal-technicality shit designed solely to circumvent U.S. laws. It's not necessary and it's dangerously stupid, really.

But for all practical purposes, he's basically dead, isn't he?

And yes, despite some pretty awful stuff that happened during the "Operation Urgent Fury," indeed he's a cunt that deserves hell.

Sure, I haven't heard anything from or about him in eons.

Same with Muammar Gaddafi. After Reagan had half of his family killed in that bombing run, he's been effectively under our heel ever since.

Except for when he had Pan Am 103 blown up in 1988.

I lost a family friend in that one.

And Reagan effectively ignored the Beirut Marine Barracks bombing; many would consider that the first time America "cut and run."

Who else is in these secret prisons? What else do we not know? Under Bush's Patriot Act a US Citizen can be dragged out of their house with no warrant and thrown in prison with no due process or notification to the family for being SUSPECTED of being a terrorist.

Bush has and is erroding the US Constitution and Bill of Rights systematically. You are no longer innocent until proven guilty in Bushcoland.

Why can't we put these terrorists in publicly known prisons. A good dose of Sammy Hagar music and VH 3 will make anyone talk.

                              THat is irrelevant.

If you want to hear stories just watch the news. I have seen several instances on CNN and in newspapers where people were arrested, and their own family had no idea what happened to them.
