Original tune - Early Jimmy Page sound?

    Heya

here is a new original I am working on. Still to track the real vocals so they are just a guide at the moment. I was going for an early Led Zep sound for the guitars, Ibanez destroyer (1976) into a Vox AC30 - minimal gain and no effects. The song is yet to be finished so any help, opinions would be appreciated.

    Cheers

Jimmy favored layers of guitars. Also, there was no punching deep bassline that carried the drums to build on.

This sounded more like Jimmy on the "Deathwish" soundtrack or the Black Crowes. Some Willie Dixon might be in order and some Ravi Shankar(sp).

I liked the exiting guitar sound though.

I liked "Image Problem" lot better.

Thanks for the feedback. Shelter is kinda old sounding too, I have been told it is a real 80's kinda thing.

Yeah, the vocals, I never wanted to sing but I keep coming accross certified lunatics who fuck up 6 to 12 months of my life so I thought I would do it myself.

To a guy basically banging away on his own the advice and feedback is way beyond valuable cause I really lose all perspective and the fact is I know and respect both you guys from this forum and I really thankyou for taking the time to listen and reply.

          Kind regards

            G'day Charlie,

I feel somewhat unqualified to judge your production
until I feel my own is worthy of scrutiny..

You have excellent production on all your songs.

Shelter is no exception, but I cant see the Page
connection/tone ?? Was there a specific part in
the song that you were trying to get his tone ?

As for your vocals, you sing better than
Soft Cock Lukas (who just won Supernova)
I think your vocals quite suit your music....

From a songwriters perspective, I feel you stay
in the same level for the whole song, it sounds
like there should be another dynamic change in there....

I guess it depends on whether you are after the cool
cruisy sound, or the calm you in the verse, and
smash you in the face chorus format ??

Its all very subjective.. I hate critiquing anyones art.....
One mans shit is another mans gold..

            For me,
I reckon you do a great job overall.. Its cool stuff..

I think he was shooting for Page on the tune labeled DEMO. If you're looking for an old Page tone, then throw a Colorsound Tonebender in front of the amp...that's what he used on Led Zep I and II.

In response to Franksters post....Fuck digital, go old school! Digital sucks elephant nuts when it comes to tone.

Thanks guys. Yep, I was going for the Page sound on the 007 DEMO. What is a Coloursound Tone Bender? Sounds great.

Thanks once again for the comments.

                  Well I feel stoopid now...
I was listening the wrong song.
I reckon thats a great tone mate !!

How did you get it, tell me all...

Hey, do you do your own drum tracks ??
If so, are you using a real kit or software ?

The Tonebender is a fuzz box from the days of old. It might be hard to find an original, but there are several good replicas on the market. I believe you'll want one modelled after the Mark II Tonebender circuit, but I could be wrong about that.
