    Shogun

Anyone ever read this novel by James Clavell?

Or see the miniseries with that lame actor Richard Chamberlain (who went on to suck the corporate cock in those lame piece of shit movies about Alan Quartermain)?

On my recent Seattle vacation, I decided to bring the paperback along to read to pass the time. It is about the 20th time I have read it (at least) over the past 20 years, and I have worn out 3 copies of the book.

I have learned how to say "I do not understand" in Japanese by reading this lol.

So anyway, just the other day I decided to see if any of it was based on historical events.

I was suprised to find out that it was....and the main character, the Englishman "Anjin-san" was based on a REAL person!

Here is the Wikipedia article on that guy, William Adams, who led an amazing life in Japan around the beginning of the 1600s and who is buried in Japan today:

    Excellent book!

I read it after I saw the mini-series.

If you like that type of adventure reading...look into "Sharpe's Rifles" series of novels. They're a fast read that mix history and war.
