Colorado Group: God, Moses Oppose State Minimum Wage Increase

This November, Coloradoans will vote on Amendment 42, a ballot initiative to raise the state minimum wage from $5.15 to $6.85. If the initiative passes, the minimum wage would be “adjusted annually for inflation, as measured by the Consumer Price Index used for Colorado.”

Stop 42, the group opposed to the initiative, is taking a “biblical” approach in their campaign against a minimum wage increase. Their new ad depicts a “Moses” character speaking to the voice of God in the Rocky Mountains. “We need divine intervention,” Moses says. God responds: “We can’t let the people make this mistake. Go. Spread the word. Vote no on 42!”

More than 650 of the nation’s leading economists disagree. The academics said in a statement issued by the Economic Policy Institute, “[M]odest increases in state minimum wages in the range of $1.00 to $2.50 and indexing to protect against inflation can significantly improve the lives of low-income workers and their families, without the adverse effects that critics have claimed.”

Divine intervention may be the only thing that can help the Stop 42 campaign. In the latest Rocky Mountain News/CBS 4 poll, 74 percent of Colorado voters said they will “definitely” or “probably” support Amendment 42.

Transcript:

MOSES: Hello!

GOD: Can you hear me now?

MOSES: We need divine intervention. They want to chisel Amendment 42 into Colorado’s constitution where it doesn’t belong.

GOD: What on earth are you talking about?

MOSES: An annual minimum wage increase in stone for eternity!

GOD: When inflation and recession come, it will be a catastrophe!

MOSES: It’s a plague we’ll face every year.

GOD: We can’t let the people make this mistake. Go. Spread the word. Vote no on 42!

Dad and I hath a sense of humor. But forcing people into poverty is not funny, and implying that We endorse such a thing, even less so.

Why do we even argue about the minimum wage? Nobody can live on it anyways. Supply and demand regulates who gets paid what. If you work in a career that's flooded your pay is less than a career that is in hot demand. A worker is like any other asset, the price is determined by demand.

If you want to make more, I suggest looking at the international labor market and see what the world is short of. Right now it's engineers of all kinds. To solve the worldwide energy crisis everyone is crying about and to stay competative, we need more technical people and people who can expand and find new energy resources. We don't need more business majors, social workers, political science majors, lawyers. We need a combination of a real good shade tree mechanic with a formal technical education.

We need to provide an environment where our kids can be creative. I used to constantly tear things agppart to see how they worked and built all sorts of stuff out old wood scraps and left over hardware. Kids now seem to play computer games and watch videos. We need to give our kids the best K-12 education possible with good reading, writing, and math skills.

We need to bring apprentacips back. I see too many college students living off of their parents or the govt. and racking up huge debts. That's rediculouse. Why not go in out of high school and be an apprentace and earn your education with a combination of work experience and a formal education?

Why not promote what we need?

Instead engineers are viewed as geeks and the shit poor students can't even cut the rudimentary science and math classes to be one.

Funny, I would think God would be opposed to raising the minimum wage. You know, the whole camel through the eye of the needle thing.
