Venom, only because I'm not familiar with Manowar.

Could you recommend me some?

Kinda hard to say. From the thrash perspective, I like Venom, obviously...much faster, more aggressive than Manowar. But Manowar is LOUD. Much appeal there, too!

I can't honestly pick one, I like them both but for different reasons.

Black Metal's a fucking classic.

Thrash rules again!

I`m voting Manowar.

If they weren`t so opinionated and didn`t wear those loin cloths they would be considered one of the best Heavy Metal bands in the world.

Unfortunately their fantastic music is hidden behind their ridiculous image.

hmm... I think that Manowar is shit... and Venom a little less shitty..
So I choose the lesser of Shit... Venom.

Manowar to me is just too cheesy. They look like Chippendale dancers. Venom at least knew what they were doing was for fun. So I choose Venom

Manowar did have plenty of ability behind their silly look, agreed...

But Venom's first two albums are just amazing. So hard, unrelenting...what the term 'heavy metal' is all about.

Gotta go with Venom.

ManOwaR!

Venom WAS grate, no doubt about that, but Manowar are one of the best Metal bands nowadays - and I ain't talkin' about Gaytallica, either - and stay true to what they always said they were: Powerful, hard and fast Metal, and bluffing their way into Wagner inspired arrangements that no other band can even come close to dreaming they can do it.

And what the fuck's wrong with their looks anyway? Is it about the music or about fashion? And must everyone dress the same so they can be accepted into this perfect world?

Fucking poofters... "ooh, look at the way that person is dressing, that's sooooooooo last week..."

Go listen to Robbie Williams or George Michael if want too listen to properly dressed men, you fucking asshole.

C'mon, Mr. Niggel... where would Manowar be if they Joey DeMaio wasn't an opinionated loudmouth self-centered son of a bitch? It's almost as much a part of why their fans follow them around as their music.

Joey HAS the right to be arrogant... can anyone of us write a song that even begins to touch the brilliancy of 'Hail & Kill' or 'Swords in the Wind'? I think not...

I hear ya, Imapus Sylicker.

However, you`re from mainland Europe where Manowar ARE Kings of Metal.

Here in the UK (which doesn`t really mean much anyway) and in the US they get really bad press (if they get any at all) and can hardly give their albums away.

Shit, if anyone ever made a better Heavy Metal album than "Kings of Metal" then I ain`t ever heard it, it`s up there with the best of them.

The problem is that people will read what I just wrote and think I`m insane because they think of Manowar as a bunch of goofs in loin cloths rather than serious musicians.

It`s Manowar THEMSELVES who made fashion an issue, they were the ones wearing the furry posing pouches and brandishing swords.

When your image is so ludicrously over-the-top, then it`s hard to look beyond it, ask GWAR, Poison, Lordi or even Kiss if they get a fair listen rather than being seen as a novelty act.

I just wish they would let their music do the talking rather than the other stuff they do (signing record contracts in blood, trying to be the loudest abnd in the world, challenging other bands to fight (then not showing up) etc.)

Look, while Manowar have some good albums, they are not in the same league as Venom. Venom are the ORIGINATORS of black metal. They pretty much invented thrash. They have several albums like Black Metal and At War With Satan which are now metal classics.

Manowar has none of this...

While I recognize Venom as influential, I am no big fan of thrash or black metal so I don`t care who invented it.

The selective memories of all the Venom supporters will only remember their first couple of albums, none of the shit they made with Demoliton Man on vocals or the AOR album Cronos made.

I'm not in the U.S. first of all. And secondly, I have no disrespect for Manowar. Hail To England and Sign of the Hammer are good albums.

As for Venom, they have had more than just a couple of great albums. They've had numerous. And no matter what they have done in terms of lineup changes, nothing can be worse than the spectacle of any Manowar, Ross The Boss/Joey Dimaio concoction. Wearing animal pelts is just not cool. It just looks dumb.

Well, this seems to be the case, nowadays... their stage clothes aren't really over the top nowadays. Though there IS an abundance if leather, the raw animal skins seem to have all but disappeared and their live performances have improved greatly since the late 90's. Their live sound nowadays is pretty close to the studio sound and for a band that recorded the songs they have, that's saying a lot.

Ah well, maybe someday everyone will come to their senses... Manowar included. :D

All of them, though Louder Than Hell is NOT a good album to begin with... it's a bit weak - for Manowar standards anyways.

Holy fuck..where should I start? Kill With Power- possibly the dumbest metal tune ever. Let me ask you, did you find it rocking to have them scream "KILLLLLLLLLLLL! KILLLLLLLLLLL!" in falsetto like 12 year old girls? The worst part is that it was on a very good album.

Their influence on the Norwegian metal scene makes Judas Priest's influence on a dipshit committing suicide a sidenote.

So... you didn't like about 30 seconds of one song and because of that Manowar is shit?

I personally find nothing wrong with the "Kill! Kill!" routine in falsetto, but there are parts in that song that attract my attention a whole lot more than the chorus - the bridge, for instance, is pure genius.

But hey, if you like to nitpick...

Manowar, because Venom were utter shit.

On some of those songs it sounds like they were racing each other to finish, and the lyrics just make me laugh (although Manowar had that effect too).

I know they pavced the way for thrash, but boy were they soon surpassed....

The CD bonus track "Pleasure slave" on "Kings of Metal".

That song sucks and spoils an otherwise perfect album.

Thank god for my vinyl copy and the fact that I could leave it off when I copied it into my MP3 player.

Also "Black arrows" from "Hail to England" and about a third each of "Louder than hell" and "Warriors of the world".

The rest is well above board, though.

It would be a whole lot cooler if they weren`t so po faced about it.

Their ever-so-serious attitude is what really drives people away.

When they say things like "We are the greatest Heavy Metal band in the world" it just makes people say "Fuck you!".

I`ve got to be honest and say that I have never listened to Manowar and took it seriously, like all good Heavy Metal the bombast and silly lyrics are what make it so much fun to listen to.

No band could write songs like "All men play on ten", "Death tone" and "Metal daze" and ever hope to be taken even remotely serious.

If they really do mean all of that shit (and I really believe they don`t) then they are fucking idiots.

The thing about Manowar is that they are pure cheese. Yet they take themselves seriously. It makes it hard to really get into them, when you find the lyrics dopey. The music is fine.

As a normal, sane person with a personal life and several other interests than Manowar, yes, of course that's okay with me. Why souldn't it?

As a Manowar fan, however... NO! You suck! MANOWAR is the ONLY true Metal band and you're a wimp because you fail to realize the glory that is MANOWAR!

That's it. PM me your address so I can mail you a bomb.

And in defense to that GRATE band that is Helloween, they're GERMAN! I think they do a pretty fine job of writing their lyrics, thank you very much... considering there are quite a few american/english/scottish/irish/south african "artists" who can't even write their own names, much less decent lyrics.

Sammy Hagar anyone?

By the way, check out Helloween's latest - Keeper of the Seven Keys: The Legacy. Hands down THE BEST record - Metal or otherwise - I've ever heard.
