Not sure exactly what you mean. It was made by Wayne Charvel, and is called the Hydra. I don't know the origin of the name. Looks like a train or VH logo sort of. Wayne still makes them over at wayneguitars.com
    This space for rent.

Go to waynesguitars.com if you want one. The 1970's was a wierd time of guitar experimentation. Lots of wierd shapes and concoctions. Eddie was the type of guy who wanted to do his own thing and be cutting edge. That wierd ass guitar was part of the process I guess.
No! You can't have the keys to the wine cellar!

              It's called the "Megazone"...

Here is the information on this guitar. It's actually for sale right now on a cool site www.rockstarsguitars.com. They sell actual instruments used by many famous artists.

              Eddie Van Halen's Megazone
You are looking at one of the rarest guitars on the planet, Ed’s Megazone guitar. This beautiful one of a kind instrument was made by the famous luthier Karl Sandoval (pictured here holding the guitar). Karl worked for Wayne Charvel at Charvel's Custom Guitar Shop in California. Karl built this guitar in 1977-78 and sold it to Ed in the late 70’s. You can check it out on Karl's web site, www.karlsandoval.com. This guitar was used live as a backup on stage and it was used in the studio as well. This comes with two letters, one from Karl Sandaval and one from Rudy Leiren, who was Eddie's guitar tech from 1974 to 1990. Karl also signed the back of the guitar and it comes with this photo of Karl Sandoval holding the guitar. There are numerous photos of Ed with this guitar and many of these will be included. Please call or email for price. Serious inquiries only.

If you check out the site, they have sold many of Ed's wolfgangs, the neck from the original "Frankenstrat", one of his first striped Kramer's (with a weird striped blue headstock) and a backup for the 5150 guitar on the '84 and 5150 tours. They sell for a shitload of money, but I would like to get a hold of one.

How much is a shitload? Ironic since Ed would make many of his own guitars from spare parts and would cost a couple of hundred bucks only.

Nice freakin' post. Remember the pics of him smashing the art guitar on his deck? Also ironic, as he was probably drunk when he did that, but probably not drunk when he put the 130.00 original together.

I asked about the Kramer with the blue headstock that sold a few months ago...it was around $20,000. You can email the site and they will give you the price. I'm pretty sure when Ed bought the guitar in '78 or '79, it wasn't quite that much.

Eddie saw the bottle and said he could be back in the band if he gave him the bottle.

Dave drank the rest of the Jack and threw the bottle at Eddie knocking him out.

Eddie never remembered what happened the night before and they wrote most of the tunes for WACF the next day.

Dave always hated the ugly guitar after that episode and started laying tracks for a solo album.

                        That is FUGLY.

It should be called the "One Day I'll Play With Sammy Hagar" guitar.

Looking back, to sling a piece-of-shit looking guitar like that was an early sign that Ed was headed for trouble.
