Hey, I'm not a player (not sure if I'd even qualify for a backup singer,) but thought it would be cool and inviting to other members here if there were maybe subforums in Gear Street for drums and synths.

This is the most useless thread on the whole internet.

Take this bullshit nonsense and discuss it over here.

Well...I'm a bit into black/progressive metal as well, and there's a big call for keyboards in that, so...I'm somewhat slanted...

Still, I see the point - with certain bands, there's NO room for keyboards, period...

Wow all this mention of new sub forums for useless gear, and not one mention of the Keytar. Where will all the J. Hammer fans go?

Well...it was a product of it's time. I suppose I wasn't opposed to it when it was relatively fresh, but it sounds so ridiculously dated now it's painful...

Let's also consider that during Miami Vice's heyday, I was probably all of what, 12 years old?

You're as convinced as you are that the Sheep Pen is a waste of Army space and resources, yet you think that drum and keyboard sub-forums to Gear Street is a smart idea? Do you honestly think a forum for keyboard players is going to attract traffic enough to merit it being there?

What about the poor ukelele players here?

Look, I'm not badgering you, seriously...it's just that a keyboard sub-forum for Gear Street (and a percussion sub-forum to boot) is in no way necessary or even worth it in the most remote sense...not by a country mile...

Yup, look what they did to Halen? Even though "Jump" was their monster single, had Edward left that thing (the synth) alone, we might've gotten a cupla more albums out of the band with Dave. Like he's (Dave) repeatedly stated, the post "1984" sessions were horrible and the music just didn't do anything for him. He couldn't get a handle on the keyboard ridden shit.

What about Dave's now both infamous and classic statement to Ed back in the day...

"Hey, you're a guitar hero man! Nobody want's to hear you playing keyboards!"

And at the time EVH was felt sooooo "picked on" by that. lol

EVH was so adament about using them though that he even made both Teddy Templeman and Dave wait (whilst locked) outside 5150, threatened to erase the master tapes if they didn't let him use certain songs. It's soooooo fucking ironic that "Jump" became the band's trademark tune when at first Dave, Templeman and Co were sooooo against it. Same applies and even moreso with "I'll Wait." Even though I dig that tune and Dave's take on it, he fucking hated that song. Again, it was a pretty good hit for them and continues to be a staple on AOR radio. Yet after the "1984" tour, Dave NEVER touched that tune again...

Actually no; I think what he does is a disgrace to original tunes, but no more than http://p202.ezboard.com/mercedes-benz/flaurabranigandiscussionboard21154frm2.showMessage ?topicID=1485.topic .

My cousin had all the Weird Al stuff the moment it came out and I got sick of it.

You know, I was thinking, of all the parodies he's done, why has Weird Al never done a parody of a Dave solo, Van Halen tune, Sammy, Dave, or Gary?
Guess the music was too much to fit altered lyrics into.

Same question could be asked of the half-million or so bands he never covered either, Steve...
