What`s your favourite solo album?

Not like a Bruce Spingsteen album or something but by an artist who has a day job in a band.

And not somebody launching a solo career either, like Ozzy for instance.

Here are some of mine:

Jon Anderson "Olias of Sunhillow"
Jimmy Page "Outrider"
Freddie Mercury "Mr Bad Guy"
Chris Squire "Fish out of water"
Philip Lynott "Solo in Soho"

My fave is Bill Wyman's "Monkey Grip" (1974);
Very close behind: Keith Richards' "Talk is cheap" (but not the pretty lame "Main Offenfer").

Chris Cornell - "Euphoria Morning".

Beautiful songs, beautifully sung.

This is a fantastic idea for a thread......

It's a good record, but I don't think it gelled with all the different singers.

Felt like a collection of songs rather than a complete record, if you know what I mean...

Coming in just ahead of Keith's Talk is Cheap, and yes folks, he was still a member of Faces when this was released:

Actually, that's a lot of what appealed to me...

David Gilmore's "On An Island"

Roger Water's "Amused To Death"

All of George Harrison's solo works

Some of Ringo's

Some Of John's...w/o Yoko Ono gargling please!

Tom Petty's "Full Moon Fever"

John Fogerty's "Centerfield"

Bryan Ferry's "Boys And Girls"

Donald Fagen - Morph the Cat

Not hard rock or guitar rock but still one hell of a great disc.
In one song "What I Do" he sings about a conversation with the ghost of Ray Charles and the music sound's eerily like Ray, Brilliant.

I'd definitely agree with those two, but would also have to add Pete Townshend's Empty Glass.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned these guys before.

I pretty much like all Peter Gabriels solo efforts and a few early Phil Collins records.

Slash's Snakepit "Ain't Life Grand".

The first record "It's 5 o'clock somewhere" wasn't great.

Ain't Life Ground however was produced by Jack Douglas and actually had a proper band on it rather than a ton of guest appearecnes,

It rocks big time, the tunes are great and SLash, as ever, is on top form.

The closest anyone's ever got to Appetite. Period.

Bruce Dickinson "Tattooed Millionaire." He did much better once he wasa outta Maiden, though. 'Skunkworks," "AoB," and "The Chemical Wedding" are all incredible (I'm not nuts about "Balls..." or "Tyranny...") but as far as a solo album while still a member of another band, TM's pretty fantastic.

Tommy Lee's solo effort minus the rap shit was surprisingly good.

Especially since he played almost everything on it!

Who knew he had that kind of talent sitting behind the drums with Crue? Sixx should tap him for some lyrics!

Nice picks DT..

I am big fan of Steve Stevens who plays lead guitar on the Vince Neil "Exposed" album..

BTW: I stumbed across a thread of yours the other day and see you live in Tampa.. I grew up there and actually went to high school there..

Did a lot of Underage drinking at the Green Parot Pub on DM Hwy..

Cheers,

KiD

The Green Parrot is STILL there!

I usually hang at the Green Iguana though.

I'm betting that the area has changed...how long have you been away?

Nice! Glad to hear it is still there. I moved to DC in 1988 and have been here since. I was down probably 5 years ago and it was still there.. Yea, Tampa has grown like crazy..

I actually went to Chamberlain High School on Busch Blvd..

We used to go to Ybor City to this club.. Mascarades (I believe) to meet chicks in college? We would road trip down and spend the days at Clearwater beach and nights at Ybor..

Ohh.. the memories...

Cheers,

KiD
