USA Todays 10 Best TV Programs of 2006

    1. 24 (Fox)

From its opening assassination shocker to its last-minute kidnap surprise, this dazzlingly audacious adventure put out its best season since the first — and its best sustained season ever. What other show left you this wound up, and this willing to rewind the clock?

24 is probably without a doubt THE most unengaging show I've ever seen. It was an interesting novelty when it started, but fucking christ, I can't FORCE myself to stomach Jack Bauers never ending stretch of bad days anymore...enough is fucking enough, already...

    Rest of the top 10

    2. Grey's Anatomy (ABC)

Fuckin' A - PRIMETIME soap opera fluff of absolutely ZERO consistancy or interest to anybody male and remotely intelligent. Who'd have thought it have been such a hit?

    3. The Wire (HBO)

    Haven't seen it, so I won't comment.

    4. Lost (ABC)

"Lost" is exactly what Lost is. Completely worthless drivel, although it was alright for the first few weeks...

    5. Rescue Me (FX)

Denis Leary is great, but also grating; I can stand accidently browsing over this from time to time, but it's torturous after too much exposure. Much like Denis Leary himself.

    6. Friday Night Lights (NBC)

F.N.L. is a pile of steaming dog shit.

    7. The Nine (ABC)

    Haven't seen - won't comment.

    8. Ugly Betty (ABC)

About as stupid as stupid can get. Is it supposed to be funny? Make you take a look at yourself or a scathing indictment of the fashion industry?

Fuck if I care. Maybe if the show was actually user friendly, I'd consider taking the time to try and figure it out, once I can get passed the convoluted mess of it's storylines.

    9. The New Adventures of Old Christine (CBS)

Really? Hey, somebody wake me up when Julia Dreyfuss can either act or make me laugh, one or the other...I watched three episodes (one last week) and I've had better times vomiting, honestly.

    10. Dexter (Showtime)

Haven't seen - so no comment.

    ********

I'm completely flabbergasted that "Heroes", "My Name is Earl", "The Office" and ESPECIALLY "House" are absent from this list. Lost? Grey's Anatomy? New Adventures of Old Christine?

Give me a fucking break. Christ, Hugh Laurie on the screen BY HIMSELF is ten times more engaging and interesting than that brain dead garbage.

Just another case example of how out of touch USA Today is...

"Weeds" should have been on that top 10 list as well...

I must be the odd man out, because I do not watch a single show on that top ten list. No wait, I did watch one episode of Lost...

Weeds and My Name is Earl should have made that list.

Well, I do try to avoid them like a plague...I'll watch anything a few times, but if it's still shit after the third viewing, consider me out...

At least Survivor didn't make it. I'm sick of that show.
          24 I don't mind.
CSI Miami is good as well as Law and Order.

24 is one I really like...silly as hell but entertaining.
You gotta get a chuckle out of how they can move across a city and organize an attack in under one hour....then repeat the same premise the next week.

The rest of the list shows what is wrong with lists...lists are stupid and pointless.

Lost...I thought it was stupid at first but my wife really liked...I got into it and now they have lost me.

            Heros is underated for sure.

My name is Earl is hilarious, House is good, I still dig the original CSI...Law and Order is good.

24 is far and away the best show on TV...and the interesting thing about THAT show...

is that you know there are plenty of government agents that have had 50 times the amount of shitty days that Bauer has had that we never here about...

Maybe not to the GRAND stage of Bauer...

              but...

              isn't it entertainment...

and for fuck sake...if you want to talk about the antithesis of Grey's Anatomy.

I watched the Nine a bit...and like a couple of the characters...and want to fuck Kim Raver...

              but lost interest...

good premise though...and another hot Mexican chick...don't know her name...

              Lost...still watch it...not sure why...

Rescue Me...Good show...don't know about top 10 though...

Friday Night Lights...better than Bueno Bob suggested...although I find myself more interested in the adults than the kids...but having played high school football...in a big football town...makes the show interesting in that regard. Plus...the guy who plays the coach is a good actor...and his wife I've wanted to hop on since Spin City...and there's never a problem watching young hootch on the screen...

Ugly Betty. True story. I turned it on one Thursday night, and my wife says, "That's the guy from the OC." I changed it and have never even come ACROSS it since.

I have never watched the New Adventures of Old Christine. Sorry, but without Jerry...she's a never was...or...was "that chick from the shitty seasons of SNL"

My name is Earl is outstanding. Not an office fan. Love Hugh Laurie...but hate House. Again, if your premise of 24 being ridiculous because of the shit that goes on there...you've got to throw the same reasoning at house. Hugh Laurie is outstanding on that show. I almost rank his performances there ahead of his performances in the 3 Stuart Littles.

Scrubs...for my money...is maybe the best show on TV. It's senseless, thoughtless...and then it's not. Great show...with good humor...one of those timeless shows that deals with shit so that you don't know they are dealing with shit...

not looking for real...just something to take me away from the real bullshit...

again...24...the Best show on TV by far.

Can't wait for the new season to start...then the movie next summer.

Heroes would be my #2. My wife got into that show...and I caught the marathon...and like it. That Jap...Hiro...is fucking hilarious...

great premise...although I don't know about the longevity.

I've seen Earl a couple of times and thought it was decent. Haven't seen any other show mentioned in this thread.

I realize that it's more of a female-geared show, but zero consistancy? You're wrong there. Everything, even the minute things, builds into the story line. Just cuz it's not geared to your demographic doesn't make it a show only interesting to stupid people.

I'm really thinking that list went by ratings.

And Dexter is worth checking out. The books are awesome, too. But I'm one of those unintelligent people who watch Grey's, so I don't know how much you want to take my word

It didn't go by the ratings...24 wasn't the top rated show...

I'm pretty sure that Grey's is the top rated show on TV...

24...may not even be top ten...in ratings...

                    not sure though...

top 20 for sure...and it improves every year...

Seriously... you guys even turn on the TV to watch a show?

Man, I once found it incredible how nowadays porn movies have better story lines and porn actresses are WAY better than your prime time "actresses". Then I got used to it. Now, I don't even bother with these "exciting and incredible new modern shows that will make your life EVEN BETTER if you watch them".

Seriously... a good show, a good game, a good woman... 'tis just like whisky. You gotta let them mature. There's a lot of shit to be watched from the 1920's to nowadays. After 2, 3 years... if they're still creating a buzz... you know they're worth your time.

Pardon any spelling errors, I did go back and correct some fourteen or fifty, but I feel the Cabernet is slowly gaining on me, and that fuckin' Spell Check ain't workin' shit.

                        Cheers! :bottle:

I agree with everything you've said. Except that 24 is probably the best show ever on tv. It's the only tv show I watch.

Further, I would lump "Heroes," "Earl," and "Office" in with the other adolescent, asinine, immature, homoerotic fluff on the list.

Also, if USA Today is "out of touch," why are those all top-rated shows? The shows are dogshit, and so are US tv viewers.
