VAN HALEN TOUR NEWS AND NEW COMPILATION PLANNED:
Ok, an exclusive Van Halen update for you today...gotta love that!
I have said all along I would print confirmed news here when available, so here is the very latest up to date (as of today) information.
There is already a list of 17 Van Halen tour dates that was posted online over the weekend. I won't print the list, as my source has an update. Apparently the whole tour is yet to be confirmed 100% and those dates leaked are merely a proposed itinerary/routing that is no longer valid.
I'm told the only dates on that list that have validity at the moment are the late April dates at The Pearl at The Palms Casino, Las Vegas (April 27 and 28). I'm told there is a good chance those dates will happen but the proper tour is now likely to start later than the other May dates listed.

There is also talk of - believe it or not - yet another compilation from the band. Yes, that seems correct. I talked to my source at Rhino Records today about the proposed compilation, described at one online store as Van Halen - Best Of 1978-1984.
So I asked - is this a planned compilation? My source states "There is more truth to that than not.". Upon further prompting, I'm told that there are plans for a new compilation concentrating solely on the David Lee Roth years and the situation is currently "nothing firm...but something should come of this...". In closing, my source says the title is not yet decided, but definitely will have a little more character than just Best Of 1978-1984."
I couldn't hang up without asking about a long overdue Van Halen box set. The reply - "Hopefully one day..."
Before anyone asks....this compilation will feature no new material and I'm sticking to my long held position that there is still no new material with David Lee Roth planned at all.

My only hope in posting this, was that it might distract WARF long enough to forget to start another I LOVE WOLFIE thread. ;)

We here at the Army are as dysfunctional as Van Halen!

Seriously though, does another compilation seem likely?

Surely a box set is the more viable option to coincide with RRHOF?

Why do I think that Melodicrock's source was THIS forum, from yesterday's post on the 78-84 compilation?

The April gigs seem to make sense. Gwen Stefani was originally scheduled on 4/28 at The Pearl and she's been moved up to 4/21 (according to her website).....to make room for VH (?).

Tickets for this venue will be a challenge, possibly. I've read that LiveNation does not sell for the Pearl venue at The Palms Resort ??

If people want a compilation of anything these days they just make their own with itunes or whatever. A compilation would be ANOTHER mistake.

The only thing I can make of this is the Compilation that will include "LIVE" versions.

The Palms Resort new Concert facility, The PEARL, where VH is supposedly going to appear on 4/27 & 4/28 (according to today's melodicrock.com), they have a State-of-the-Art Recording Studio connected to PEARL for LIVE Concert Recordings, so the complicated equipment to achieve this does not have to be brought in.

Could it be that VH is going to take advantage of recording at PEARL for both concert dates and sell it after the Summer Tour ?

Just a thought...

My crystal ball tells me that Roth & The Sisters will take advantage of the PEARL venue and use it for a LIVE DVD....again, just my opinion.

I hope this compilation is more than just picking the top tracks off the six pack.

I hope we get unreleased stuff and a bonus DVD to boot.

THEN, this thing would be worth something.

If it's on the Rhino label, Van Halen may not even have any say in the matter...

FYI, Rhino can pretty much pump out any number of "Greatest Hits" albums by anybody under the WEA label umbrella, past or present; sometimes the artists in question actually have a say in the matter...

They usually do it with artists who's time has pretty much come and gone and aren't going to sell anything anymore...they also seem to lean towards artists who aren't under the WEA banner any longer...

Most of which fits the Van Halen criteria these days, when you think about it.

But if they really have to put out a compilation album out, they should put in the following:

- Unreleased tunes from 1975-77.
- The unreleased tunes from the 2000 sessions
- A DVD retrospective complete with interviews and vintage live footage, most of which we have never seen.

THAT would be worth buying --- not a repackaging of the top CVH tunes -- shit, people do that already with their Ipods and such.

What did the 2004 set move...a half million units?

I can't see another compilation of previously released tracks doing much, regardless of the era it concentrates on...how many times are fans gonna keep buying the same stuff over and over again?
