What size picks?

The flexibility of mediums? Or the attack of heavies....

Colors?

Tossed into the crowd after solos?

Taped to the mic stand? or body?

Monogrammed?

Much to consider......

He needs to do both...some songs call for a strong pick attack, and others require fingers.

Pick. Attack is sharper, sounds better on the CVH material than fingering. Speaking from experience...

I'd bet on picking as well cos the kid originally started out playing guitar. It's just an easier style and comes out more naturally. I just started playing bass in October after being a guitarplayer for 22 years and the pick is a lot easier. However, I refrain from using it cos I wanna learn how with my fingers. Especially popping the strings.

In regards to tuning...I'm personally hoping that he 5 strings it, for a bit of an extended range; myself, I'm preferential to 4 strings and rarely touch anything else, but in this case I'm somewhat curious and think it'd be interesting to see. The low B would provide some added lower range, which would be kinda meatier than Mike's old standards. Since I'm thinking five string, he should tune to BEADG, although I have heard of five string tuning done to EADGC; that might be interesting, but I'm unconvinced on it's practical applications.

P style pickups would work good...it's just a personal thing, but I don't really care for dual J's...

Hopefully he'll be wise enough (or instructed by Dad) to use Roundwound strings; the sustain is a lot better and the timbre gets brighter as well...

God damnit, now I'm talking shop and I HATE doing that here...

Michael Anthony in a 1981 Guitar Player Magazine interview:

GP: Do you favor using your fingers or a pick?

MA: I use a pick and my fingers about 50% each. I use a pick to get more of an attack and if I’m doing a lot of chords. Actually, I started playing bass with my fingers, so that’s where I can get all my speed from. So if I’m doing quicker things, then I play with my fingers.

There you have it. Straight from the mouth of the man who Wolfie will be trying to replicate.

Fat Wolfie will use bare fingers to pretend been playing what the real bass player (a professional one) on backstage is playing

And you can usually tell a "bassist" from a frustrated guitar player playing bass by their string attack.

I could see Eddie in full tilt "catholic school nun mode", slapping Wolfies knuckles with a ruler everytime he reaches for a pick.

Neither. 'Cause by the time they hit the stage, Wolf has progressed so much, he'll be playin' a Chapman Stick.

Wolfie will be using mostly a pick unless his fingers are in fact really strong enough.
Ed must have been thinking of screwing Mike out of his band position for a long time....hats off to him though for finally exiling the Red Worm!
Are Mike's back-up vox gonna be running on tapes for the shows?....lol
