View Full Version : Why Isn't VH @ the Grammy's??

Putting aside all the other BS @ the Grammy's...why the fuck aren't these guys either performing or showing their faces tonite??

Seems like a perfect venue to let everyone know they're back and ready to kick some ass!! Parleying this with the RRHOF induction ceremony should help them totally jumpstart this thing. You'd think their PR people would get it.

Maybe its because they are trying to get ready for their big tour!

It's the Police's night, when they do play the RRHOF they should NOT play Jump, but a ass kickin song. Ain't talkin bout love or unchained, nothinhg pop, just some kick ass rock!!!

Excellent question my friend. Should have gone down someting like this...

Someone is on stage talking about this or that son of a mother, or about some motherlovin' daughter's song and all out of nowhere/stage left struts out DLR talking smack.

After a few moments you hear Al start to guide Ed into a mean guitar lead, but no...Wolfie starts to bang out a wicked beat just before Smokin Loon Daddy shows us how to do it.

Dave sings his ass right off. End of song. *Mike slammed to floor. Exit stage right.

*Microphone (not Mike Anthony)

Truthfully, it would have been excellent to see them together in the audience chillin' out together.

Yeah, I'd like a Hard Rocker also.... It would separate the Men from the boys.....

But...... 1. The induction is all about "pop" music, chart music, etc.....
Hard-Drivin "Pop" Music..... That's what is getting them inducted, and not their great Hard Rock music.

2. The upcoming "Best Of" release is ALL about radio hits and covers...

3. The Tour itself....will probably be all about radio hits and covers....

So, with all that said..... what songs are likely to be performed??

Radio Hits and covers..... It's really that simple.

If there was any real respect for VH's Hard Rock fans, then the "Best Of" would have been a 2-CD release, with one CD full of their Hard Rock, and the other full of their commerical radio hits and covers.....
That would have pleased both the causal fans, and the Hard Rock fans....

But.... it's not going there......

I watched the Police performance and that was it.

The rest of the show, is and as always, a waste of time.

I'm glad VH didn't use the Grammy's as their announcement platform....The Grammy's these days is dominated by a Hip/Hop venue.

Let Rock's pride have their own individual light to shine...perhaps the RNRHOF or simply their own headline in the media.

You are so right about that Vinnie V ! !

The "Grammy" way of doing business is:

------------------------------------------------
Best Rock Album Award:

Presented BY: Al Gore and Queen Latifa
------------------------------------------------

That about sums of the Grammys sensibilites. What a fucking corporation they are running !!

They turned up but it was an over 18s only deal so they were turned away at the door.

Apparently, Eddie and son were then at a loose end and could be found busking just two streets away. According to his father, Wolfgang's contribution was a note for note perfect rendition of Eruption on a ukelele playing with his teeth only. This in spite of the fact that he only took up the instrument 15 minutes prior to this.

Why wasn't VH there? Because their PR machine is fucked. The "official" announcement was nothing more than an updated webpage, leaving fans to find out by stumbling across it. No press conference, no party, no tv or radio appearances, no photographs, etc... Maybe these things will still happen around the induction ceremony, but they have really missed the boat with the hype & publicity factor.

Because VH is no longer respected by the music industry. They've burned bridges professionally as well as with the fans. Ed is an egomaniac who has forever tarnished the VH legacy. A lackluster Mach II reunion tour in 2004 and a semi-reunion tour in 2007... face it only the people who post here care. They'll have their day at the RnRHoF. As for PR... do they even have PR or management? The Police were on the Grammys last night, had a press conference and minishow this morning in Los Angeles and launched a fully loaded website today!!! At this point I'm still not convinced there will be a tour this summer. Whether you like The Police or not they are a class act that know how to kick off a reunion.

I will say one thing about the grammys.....

if this is the best the music is these days, music is in real need of some real artists. what a boring showing of music. I cant believe how bad the music is today.

I thought the police sucked, well sting sucked. his voice sounds ok and dont know why he doesnt seem to hit the high notes, he sang way off and drifted from the band. not the police I remember.

Sting sang the verses to Roxanne properly, (high range) but he could not cut that on the chorus too so he sang it low.
Overall, not a bad performance but you can really see how the years apart affect the performance....after a few gigs they will find their groove again.

true, but no one from VH has had as high of an international profile as sting. put sting, dlr, and evh in a suit and have them walk down any city block of any major city around the world. who do you think will be recognized first? sting w/o question. that's also part of the out of sight, out of mind factor. my dad would recognize sting. he'd probably think that dlr and evh were his employee's or something. lol.

the fact that Sting has an international profile is meaningless. He has not put out any recognizable music in 5 years since Brand New Day. His solo music has not been anywhere near as good as The Police so to say that he has been visible is not entirely accurate.

The Grammys were boring...I turned in for the Police and found myself a little less than impressed with the performance...good, but nothing to write home about...

The Eagles medley was fucking God awful...whoever came up with that idea should have been shot on principle alone...NOBODY should do the Eagles BUT the Eagles, PERIOD. I think somebody needs to enact that into law somewhere...penalty for covering the Eagles = immediately dropped from your label or something...

On the one hand, I'm glad there wasn't any Van Halen...on the other hand, is it another blown PR opportunity for a reunion that really isn't generating any real mainstream interest thus far?

Who knows...at this point, I really think the industry doesn't give a shit about anything related to Van Halen anymore...they've had numerous opportunities, predominant among them being 1996, and they've blown it over and over again...and without an original lineup reunion, to the general public I personally think it looks like a case of "half-assed, too little and too late".

All you have to do is compare the frenzy of summer '96 to the relative quiet of winter '07 and the truth is evident. The mainstream music industry used to love Van Halen - anymore, it couldn't apparently care less. The only official announcements of the reunion I heard were here and a few blurbs across several music sites. That's it.

Noticable difference, if you ask me...I really think they're going about this all wrong.
