View Full Version : What happened tonight at the RnRHoF

There was a video montage of both the Roth and Hagar eras.

Velvet Revolver got up and gave an introduction. Weiland commented on the drama involving the induction. Slash called Roth the greatest rock frontman of all time. Duff called Hagar "the I Can't Drive 55 motherfucker" in jest. The other Velvet Revolver guitarist mentioned that Sammy sells tequila.

Hagar and Anthony got onstage and walked over to the podium. Anthony commented that he wished Ed was there, but that he was home getting some help. Thanked Mo Austin and Ted T. He also thanked Dave, Ed, Al and Gary Cherone.

One guy in the audience yelled "Eddie!" a couple of times.

Hagar said he wished everyone was there. He said it was hard for him and Mike to be there doing this by themselves, then said nothing could have kept him away. He thanked the RnRHoF for including him when they really didn't have to.

Then Mike and Sammy each made the 5150 sign, held their hands over their heads and touched thumbs.

Velvet Revolver played a mundane version of Ain't Talking Bout Love, then followed that up with a totally messed up version of what I think was Runaround.

Then Mike and Sam got up onstage with the Letterman band and did Why Can't This Be Love?, which sadly sounded better than Velvet Revolver.

There it is. The long awaited Van Halen induction into the RnRHoF: unsatisfying, butchered and pathetic. You know, all the trademarks we've come to associate Van Halen with over the last ten years.

Velevt Revolver absolutely butchered Ain't Talkin' Bout Love, and Scott Weiland danced around like a f**king sissy! I hoped that it wasn't going to be shit, but I was totally disappointed by the whole thing.
Sure Sam and Mike had every right to perform, but that sucked too! Van Halen gets inducted into the Hall Of Fame by Paul Shaffer playing Why Can't This Be Love? I'm f**king flabbergasted!

I haven't paid attention to Van Hagar since 1985. What is this "5150 sign"?

The performance by Velvet Revolver was an insult. If you're going to accept the job of performing a Classic Van Halen song than at least play it with some heart and act like you want to be there. They should of held a Velvet Revolver to their ball sacks and pulled the trigger. At least that would have been enjoyable. On the same subject, anyone Van Hagar fan that comments on Daves singing after hearing Spemmy last night should take their over priced Spammy in a bottle waste water and stick it up their asses. He sucked big time and Mikey wasn't much better. What a shame that it came to this. Dave was best just staying away. Did anyone hear the guy yelling at the end of Velvet Revolvers performance (if thats what you want to call it). Somebody was yelling something along the lines of "thats not Van Halen". I don't even know what that second song Revolver perfromed was.

From CNN...

David Lee Roth: MIA
Only Van Halen's second lead singer, Sammy Hagar, and ex-bass player Michael Anthony turned up for their induction. Guitarist Eddie Van Halen has just gone into rehab and original lead singer David Lee Roth stayed away in a tiff over what he would perform.

Hagar said he wished his bandmates could be there, but "it's out of our control."

"It's hard for Mike and I to be up here to do this, but you couldn't have kept me away from this with a shotgun," Hagar said.

It took less to keep Roth away. He stood up the hall, reportedly because he couldn't agree on what to sing with the band Velvet Revolver, which offered a tribute. Joel Peresman, president and CEO of the Hall of Fame, said Roth was offered a chance to sing a song of his choice with the house band. "The decision not to come was solely his, not ours."

Hagar and Anthony joined Velvet Revolver to sing "Why Can't This Be Love."

I can't believe Mike and Spam are still making that vagina with their hands.

Ridiculous...

Sounds like a completely forgettable, embarrassing night that I'm overjoyed I did not witness.

There is that "car crash" vibe to it though....like I want to take a peek when it gets replayed....

I'm so disgusted I don't know what to think. One hand, I feel like it wouldn't have been so bad if Dave would have been there. Maybe he could have classed it up a bit, and perhaps shined. On the other hand, good to stay away from the negativity of this piece of shit. I don't know.

Maybe it wouldn't have been negative if he would have beenthere. Velvet R would have still sucked though. I'm just so angry about the whole thing. MA seemed really awkward. Sammy sounded like he thought he shouldn't have been there. Fuuuuuuuuckkk

Listen people, this Hall bullcrap IS NOT the be-all-end-all of the band or Dave!

Its a useless recognition.

The truth lies in the classic six-pack, the sold out tours, the million-plus selling albums.

EVERYONE knows WHAT Van HALEN was and WHO they were (and are).

And its certainly not the Other Half.
