    The Number "6"

Why do so many people put oot 6 classic albums, or make 6 with the classic line up, in a row?

    Van Halen (with Dave)
AC/DC (with Bon...including If you Want Blood)
    Black Sabbath (with Ozzy)
Judas Priest (Sad Wings of Destiny-British Steel)
    Queen (Queen-News of the World)
Southside Johnny (until he started using synths and totally bollocked everythintg up for a while)
The Doors (not including Absolutley Live)
The Who (My Generation-Quadrophenia...not including Live At Leeds)
Alice Cooper (original band) (Pretties for You-Billion Dollar Babies)

I seem to remember that in "Crazy From the heat" Dave mentions his rule of 6: that bands usually have six years at the top.

Given that back in those days band put out a record every year, that would account for the 6 great abulm phenomenon.

    Agree/disagree?

      I agree Shaun.

      Look at Maiden's 6 best:

      Killers
      NOTB
      Piece of Mind
      Powerslave
      Somewhere in Time
Seventh Son of a Seventh Son

While Maiden have put out some good work afterwards (some not so great) -- to me , these are the DEFINITIVE albums from them.

Even KISS -- their stellar work (not counting the live albums) are in their first six studio records:

      KISS
      Hotter than Hell
      Dressed to Kill
      Destroyer
      Rock and Roll Over
      Love Gun

And there is CVH's six pack.

      How about AC/DC?

      Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap
      Let There Be Rock
      Powerage
      Highway to Hell
      Back in Black
      For Those About to Rock

Ac/Dc actually made 6 classic studio albums with Bon Scott. The confusion comes from the fact that Atlantic Records butchered the Hell out of their first 4 albums, only releasing what they wanted to, combining the first two albums into one, and not bothering to release "Dirty Deeds" in any form until 1981, at least in the US.

        Here's the REAL Ac/Dc "6 pack".......

        High Voltage - 1974

        TNT - 1975

        Dirty Deeds - 1976

Let There Be Rock - 1977

        Powerage - 1978

        Highway to Hell - 1979

The last two albums are the same as you know them, though the original Highway to Hell cover has some "Hell" scenery airbrushed in on top of the band photo that's on the Atlantic version.
