When eddie was asked about David Lee Roth in a interview in 1986 for the promotion of 5150,

Ed says " We listened to guy for eleven years and then he walked out on us", then Ed said he was bummed.

From watching Ed on video in this interview, he looked so lost

Dave has always been the leader of every band he has been in! Without Dave, Ed is nothing worth discussing!

It wasn't that we listened to this guy for 11 yrs., it was we worked with this guy for 11 yrs. and he walked out ou us. Ed also said he wrote all the music and either they liked it or shit canned it.

Good point. Of course Ed has nothing worth discussing without Dave.

Van Halen is:

Vocals - David Lee Roth
guitars - whoever Dave says
bass - whoever Dave says
drums - whoever Dave says (that doesn't wear hockey equipment and is not on a team)

I remember that MTV bullshit special. Eddie saying he was never allowed to do play keyboards or some such bullshit. Looking back, the fucker probably now realizes why Dave bitch slapped him so much. "All the spine of a chocolate eclair!"

Yep. Bunch of talk from Ed from April 1985 until early 1986 about how much better Hagar was as a singer, how the music was better and how much of an asshole Roth was.

Then 5150s first single came out: so much for how the music was better with Dave gone.

Then I listened to the rest of 5150: so much for Sammy "one key" Hagar's voice being better than Dave's. Just an annoying mid tone shrill. No bottom end. Dave covers the bottom end, mid range and has a higher octave scream than Sammy.

Then Eat 'Em And Smile came out and blew 5150 right out of the water. Steve Vai out-Eddied EVH, and the music rocked.

Dave might be an egotistical asshole, but then so are Sammy, Eddie and Al. Difference is Roth has some talent to back up his ego. For Eddie and Al, about the only thing they can brag about is what they did with Dave. As for Sammy, he's doomed to forever be in Dave's shadow, and all the lies he tells about selling more records with VH than Dave won't get him out from under it.

"Sam Hagar's mad at me because he knows I'm better than him" DLR 1986.

I still cant figure out why Dave is not back now. The last little hint he gave us, was that it could happen, but Ed needed some sort of
intervention. You have to wonder if Ed had in fact got his act together,
why didnt he hook up with Dave again? Theres been no majorly bad
comments between the two for years. We know they have worked together again, Ed blamed the lawyers. Said everything otherwise was going well. Theres still something going on that doesnt quite make sense. I think Eddie is drinking heavily and Spammy is going leech off
him no matter what his state. I wonder if we will ever know the truth ?

good posts guys!

sadly both are losers when it comes to rocking the world. ed thinks he has got dave back for leaving when all he did was seal his own fate. dave, as great as he is is lost without VH. its a shame after all these years these guys have not grown up an ounce and took care of business!

ha ha ha, thanx dave lee n!
no mistakes here bro,
i expect we'll all be reading about it 2morrow. ha ha!
and frankly, bru, as one of the older dudes here,
i would rather listen to fair warning or wacf or eeas or alae or 1984 at home
than go see sad cheese, and i think our toastmaster general would agree with me.
wouldn't you bro?
until HE puts out the next great rock album.

but seriously, DLR IS =VH= nuff said.

Out of all the players in the classic Van Halen lineup, seems to me only Dave has any cognizance about how bitchin the music those four guys made was.

Ed and Al can rail on about how Dave's lyrics and attitude are passe, but that lineup was the definitive Van Halen lineup. The only one that mattered. The one that will always get the most airplay on the radio.

Instead of trying to deny it and denegrating Roth, Ed and the other two should be thankful. The reason they can't give Roth his due is just ego, because to say Roth was an important part of the band would be admitting there was more to classic Van Halen than Eddie's licks.

Van Halen are just a joke now. Too bad for Ed and Al that those first 6 records and the classic bootlegs are still around to contradict their bullshit.

What's always baffled me is why Ed and Al would disaparage Classic VH as much they have. I know it's due to deep down knowing the product with Spam is inferior.... But Shouldnt they just keep their mouths shut........wouldnt they want to sell more Classic VH albums instead of saying basically" Our years with Dave were just a warmup"?!

Because they'll cut off their collective nose to spite their face, that's why. The fact that Dave shared in that success kills them, so they'd rather disparage it even though they were part of it too. The "success" if you want to call it that with Van Hagar was all about Eddie. Sammy was never an attraction, so Eddie would rather be the one and only star of that music even though it sucks.
