Dr Dre is a fucking genius. Why? As much as I love the guys who actually played the instruments on those great songs that Dre sampled from, I still respect Dre for the hooks that he took. Sampling is an artform in its own right. Sure, the basic hook is sampled, but from there the producer adds a bunch of his own flavor to it. Dre's production is not heard, it's felt. Plus, not to mention his lyrics and flow.

I'm not a rap fan, per se, but I do respect talent when I hear it and Dre is a legend. I've often thought of what it would be like if Dre would produce some heavy rock albums. My guess would be spectacular.

NWA were pioneers of an artform that has been heavily bastardized.
