I love this guy's sound!

Mr. Scary kicks ass on a level with Ace's Fractured Mirror...

Next to EVH and Randy Rhoads . Lynch quintessential 80's L.A. guitarist. Good performance. His tone is fat . Very saturated , more than I'd use but smokin nonetheless.

Nice guy as well.

Thanks for posting.;)

Ahhh, the glory days of Dokken... :(

1987 was a fucking killer year for them...I think "Back for the Attack" was one of the very best hard rock albums I heard all year, and I still dust it off from time to time these days...

They never hit it dead on like that again...

Always hated Dokken's vocals though....

Back in the day, I thought Don was a good singer for his sort of material. He wrote and sang within the range he had to work with. Very much a crooner, and he always sounded better on the ballads than on the rockers, but to tell the truth I couldn't imagine anybody singing things like Breaking the Chains, Into the Fire, Dream Warriors, etc, any better or more appropriately.

These days he doesn't have much left in the tank vocally...

I liked Dokken, but live they left something to be desired. To me they had no stage presence, especially Don Dokken. He always seemed lost up there and had about as much charisma as Hagar.

I'm sure he used to play it much more fluidly with a better tone when he was younger.

Anyway I refuse to watch this until he starts dressing appropriately.

ELVIS

I just tried to watch it again...

That's not any good...

He's super stiff, and it seems like he pauses between each part, especially before and after the tapping...

And the tapping sounds like someone just showed him how to do it...

He was a little more fluid back in the day, but not much...

Has he had a face lift ??

He looks like Little Richard...

Age is a cruel, cruel thing!

Not looking good at all.

I have a question for the guitar players out there: how does Nuno Bettencourt rate against Lynch?

Nuno Bettencourt is a much more diverse and better guitarplayer. Just listen to Satellite Party "Ultra Payloaded".
He played very well in Extreme, but transcended himself into a whole new guitarplayer with his new project. Cool playing.

I'd give "classic" Lynch the edge over Nuno any day of the week and twice on Sunday..."new" Lynch, I don't know so much about though...

ELVIS

Maybe "classic" Lynch if there is such a thing...

But he was never a contender among real guitarists...

He was more worried about working out and focusing on his looks...

I used to (maybe still do) have a VHS tape lying around somewhere of Dokken ripping it up somewhere in 1980(ish)...very obscure, from what I was told...

Funny thing about it was that DON actually spent about 75% (or more) of the entire concert playing the leads/solos while George was handling rhythm...very odd...

But I have to give Don some credit, he can actually kick some ass on the guitar when he wants to, truth be told...I barely missed George at all...

Not to offend any of my guitar playing friends here, but that that squeaky over processed humbucking, soaked with reverb, 80's metal hair band tone makes me sick...

Combine that with George Lynch's repetitive 80's metal licks and you have a snoozefest in my opinion...

Don't get me wrong, he's not a terrible player by no means, and i'm sore many of you might think even this clip is awesome...

Lemme just repeat, it's "definitely not all that"...

I have a feeling that's the tone Panamark is going for...

An MP1 will do it for sure...;)

Not bad, just not my cup of tea...

I switched to single coils as soon as I stumbled onto Yngwie...

Actually, a friend who bought the first Yngwie album on cassette gave it to me because he didn't like it...

ELVIS, there's nothing wrong with Lynch's performance. Granted, it's not mind blowingly
original but it's still a nice piece of music. Why not just enjoy it for what it is?
