Came accross one of these that i can get my hands on for $AU800. American, really nice condition etc etc. Its the same colour as the pic (kinda gross) but it seems like a great deal. Any of you guys know a reason I shouldn't ??

I'm pretty sure it's made in Mexico...

This is what a 50th Anniversary American Strat looks like, and it's closer to $2000...

Ok, they did make an American Gold Anniversary Stratocaster, but there is a mexican version of the same thing...

So, if you can score a real American version for that kind of change, buy it...

Ill have to take a closer look tomorrow. I had a quick look and strum this arvo. I have to admit I didn't ask if Its American or made in Mexico I assumed (my bad) that the headstiock was the tell of a Mexican strat. It looks pretty similar to second pic of a Mexican one. I think you know what i mean by the headstock looks like an American one. Will the plate tell me if its one or the other ? Im sure you're aware of a few different ways to tell.......

doctor roth

I'm assuming that the neck plate will be blank on a mex one

ELVIS

The serial number and the made in mexico sign would be on the back of the headstock, like this...

http://i20.ebayimg.com/02/i/000/9f/ae/777a_1.JPG

The USA version would be similar...

Also the Mexico version has a smooth neck plate, not the 50th logo like the American...

ELVIS

The only Fenders that have their country of orgin on the front of the headstock are the Standard series, both American and Mexican...

The rest are all on the back...

I'll bet you a dollar it's Mexican...

Make that a Euro...

My optimism is slowly deflating. I'm beginning to think that I was WISHING it was American more than anything else. Ill still have a look tomorrow but Im not too sure now. Its not an all together terrible deal but i can get better guitars for the money. And i've got a mexican start (which after a couple of little changes is one of my fav guitars) but id much rather an american one at this point. The advice is appreciated, as always. Cheers Elvis

Well, as I point out here (http://www.rotharmy.com/forums/showthread.php?postid=1181277#post1181277) the mexican stuff has made a definite turn for the better with the reissue guitars and special models such as this gold anniversary...

But yes, any American Standard, reissue or a special model is a better guitar with much more value...

Dude, there's all colors of American Stratocasters on ebay for a lot less money than that one...

Black with a maple fretboard seems to be the cheapest color...

Dude, I could find you a steal within a week or two of looking...

BTW, I just bought a real 1997 Yngwie Malmsteen scalloped rosewood neck...

Let's see, that makes seven scalloped necks, soon to be eight...:D

How's the Megadeth song go ??

If i know i'm going crazy, I must not be insane...

I bought a 70's styled strat that was hecho en mexico. The setup was perfect out of the box. I never had to tweak a thing and it plays and sounds great. It has the big fat U shaped neck. I can't complain.

I always wanted to mess around with a scalloped neck but haven't yet. I know some people love them and other hate them. Some only scallop the uper register. It does look badass though.

Personally, I dig those all-gold strats. I almost bought one back in 1989. I saw The Who's 25'th Aniversay Tour and Daltrey was playin' one during "Eminence Front" and I thought they looked killer. I just love Strats sooo damn much anyway. lol. Anyway, I then saw one that fall (1989) in a local mucsic store and came sooo friggin' close to buyin' it. I ended up buying new wheels and tires for my SUV instead.

That total gold with the maple fretboard is sooooo good lookin' IMO. I'd never buy the Mexican one though unless I inquired about them. Unlike older Japanese Strats, I don't hear a heck of a lot of good things about The Mexican products.

As they say, he who hesitates..............I came home last night (I may have been a little drunk) saw that red strat and thought NICE, Fell asleep and someone bought it.

I notice that YJM is gone too, removed. Someone must have offered a mint for it or the seller wasn't happy with the bidding

ELVIS

Yep, that Candy Apple Red American Strat went for $699 and the seller said he shipped worldwide...

Missed that one...

Here's another very good deal...

If I weren't up to my neck in building four guitars at the same I would jump on this (http://cgi.ebay.com/2003-USA-Yngwie-Malmsteen-Strat_W0QQitemZ190122740805QQihZ009QQcategoryZ4706 9QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)...

2003 USA Yngwie Malmsteen Stratocaster in one of my favorite colors...

http://i1.ebayimg.com/05/i/000/a4/c6/732e_1.JPG
http://i22.ebayimg.com/03/i/000/a4/c6/758d_1.JPG

That's about as low as you're likely to find on a high quality USA made specialized instrument...

And I predict these Yngwie Strats turning into collectors items at some point down the road...

In my opinion there's not a better Stratocaster made...
