    50th Anniversary strat

Came accross one of these that i can get my hands on for $AU800. American, really nice condition etc etc. Its the same colour as the pic (kinda gross) but it seems like a great deal. Any of you guys know a reason I shouldn't ??

I'm pretty sure it's made in Mexico...

This is what a 50th Anniversary American Strat looks like, and it's closer to $2000...

Ok, they did make an American Gold Anniversary Stratocaster, but there is a mexican version of the same thing...

So, if you can score a real American version for that kind of change, buy it...

Ill have to take a closer look tomorrow. I had a quick look and strum this arvo. I have to admit I didn't ask if Its American or made in Mexico I assumed (my bad) that the headstiock was the tell of a Mexican strat. It looks pretty similar to second pic of a Mexican one. I think you know what i mean by the headstock looks like an American one. Will the plate tell me if its one or the other ? Im sure you're aware of a few different ways to tell.......

I'm assuming that the neck plate will be blank on a mex one

The serial number and the made in mexico sign would be on the back of the headstock, like this...

The USA version would be similar...

Also the Mexico version has a smooth neck plate, not the 50th logo like the American...

The only Fenders that have their country of orgin on the front of the headstock are the Standard series, both American and Mexican...

The rest are all on the back...

                      Make that a Euro...

My optimism is slowly deflating. I'm beginning to think that I was WISHING it was American more than anything else. Ill still have a look tomorrow but Im not too sure now. Its not an all together terrible deal but i can get better guitars for the money. And i've got a mexican start (which after a couple of little changes is one of my fav guitars) but id much rather an american one at this point. The advice is appreciated, as always. Cheers Elvis

Well, as I point out here the mexican stuff has made a definite turn for the better with the reissue guitars and special models such as this gold anniversary...

But yes, any American Standard, reissue or a special model is a better guitar with much more value...
