Spice Girls announce reunion tour Thu Jun 28, 8:50 AM ET

LONDON - The Spice Girls announced Thursday they are reuniting for an upcoming tour.

Talk of a reunion had swirled for weeks — boosted by Sporty Spice herself — and the vivacious five had been expected to make "an announcement to the world."

"Following weeks of speculation, the Spice Girls are set to make an official announcement to the world regarding future plans on Thursday, June 28," said the statement from 19 Entertainment. "Details regarding the announcement will be released in the coming days."

Victoria (Adams) Beckham (Posh Spice), Melanie Chisholm (Sporty Spice), Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice), Emma Bunton (Baby Spice) and Melanie Brown (Scary Spice) formed the Spice Girls in 1994. They became a global hit before splitting in 2001.

Chisholm, who had opposed a reunion, recently told the British Broadcasting Corp. she had changed her mind.

"For the first time ever, there is some truth in the rumors. We've been discussing it and it could possibly happen," the 33-year-old singer told BBC radio last week.

"I've always said, `I don't want to do it, the past is the past. It was amazing, it was magical. We could never recreate it,'" Chisholm said. "But this year people have been talking about it and some of the girls have expressed an interest in doing it."

The Spice Girls' 2000 album, "Forever," had weak sales, and they began concentrating on their solo careers.

I remember when they hit big time back in the mid 90's- God I hated them so much, no talent whatsoever media whores, they've done nothing since then, although Victoria manged to get Beckham, and off course Mel B's got a kid with Eddie Murphy, Geri Haliwell hasn't done much but make an idiot of herself and the rest are not worth mentioning about, Sorry but they sucked and they will always suck. I remember when Peter Kay announced THE WHO as The Spice Girls at Live 8. There was more booing than cheering.

To be honest, I didn't think there would be such a big crowd for Take Twat either, and I read they were only doing 11 dates...so, playing it safe?

I really don't care enough about them to be riled up. People like nostalgia trips, good for them.

But they couldn't sing back then. Nor could any of them dance particualry well. In comparisson to the slick, well trained acts that have followed them, they will looks like a bunch of ammateurs.

But they are going to make a lot of money very quickly, and will proably re-release their "best of" to cash in on it.

Such is life. They don't sound any better or worse than most of the shit in the charts at the moment so the public is no better or worse off.

The Spice Girls are and always were a waste of life. I'm not saying they should die, I'm just saying their music shouldn't be inflicted on the population. They're nothing better than a female version of the Backstreet Boys, I've hated them since 3rd grade and still do today. They're really a waste of a reunion too, since there's so many amazing, talented bands I would like to see reunite and do a tour *hinthint*.
