In terms of size and the public perception, of course Dave isn't as big as he was twenty years ago.
The reason he still acts like a rock star? Because he still is one.
No point in comparing Roth to Ozzy. Ozzy is told what to do by his publicity hungry wife and two kids, and doesn't seem physically or mentally capable of functioning on his own. Ozzy's career jolt has more to do with the trend of reality television and everyone wanting televised attention for all the wrong reasons.
This article seems to be written from the POV of so many others. Seems critics are pissed off that Roth just keeps doing what he wants to do with a smile on his face, and it infuriates them that Dave isn't on Oprah crying about how he isn't as popular as he used to be.
Fuck that sissified, daytime drama pussy attitude. Roth has resilience.
I, for one, hope he never loses his sense of humor and sense of purpose.
I can agree that his appearance in the last few years, particularly his hair, is kind of bizarre, but he's gotten rid of that platinum blonde wig as of late and looks more natural.
He will probably never be as famous as he was with Van Halen in the early 1980s. Even if he reunites with Ed tomorrow, the boost to his career would only last as long as the reunion did. But to expect Dave to go off running scared on some radical search to reinvent himself because he's not as popular as he once was is ridiculous.
Roth should keep chugging along doing what he's doing: entertaining. With any luck, the sisters will come back to where it all started and give Dave the respect he deserves.Scramby eggs and bacon.Comment
