Remember when everyone had to have a Bradshaw board with MIDI switching and rack gear? Stompboxes will never die! I still haven't found anything digital or in a rack that can compete with some stompboxes.

He´s one of the most boring guitarists that make the news! He couldn´t be any less exciting if he just used a POD!

That is a pretty cool pedalboard !!!! love to own the CE-1 chorus

one of roland/boss' best pedals for sure.

What is interesting is the EH Holy Grail pedal

My brother is a tour manager for a popular touring band.

He said he is seeing that pedal, holy grail, in more and more popular bands amp set-ups.

Buckcherry,Lamb of God to mention a couple.

Frampton has a pedalboard the size of a small innertube...unbelievable...fucker kills though.

Here's an interesting snippet about Thunders' effects...LOL.

It should also be noted that the idea of Johnny having numerous Les Paul T.V.s over the years does not seem plausible. John Penny who played with Johnny on "Que Sera Sera" and "Copycats" makes special mention of the warped neck. A player doesn't continue to use the same beat up guitar unless they have a great attachment to the instrument. Also, the chances of owning numerous Les Paul T.V.s with the very rare "tortoise shell" guard are nearly impossible. It was also known that at least one of Johnny's guitars had a repaired neck crack. Thanks a lot Dee Dee! By the way, do not pay too much credence to the different sticker configurations on his Les Paul T.V.'s, the more tell tale signs are the wear spots on the guitar through the paint and down to the bare wood. These are very consistent from his New York Dolls days right up until the end (the wear patches were larger in the later years).

The other half of rock and roll sound should also get a nod. Johnny's main amplifiers were Fenders (main set up being one or two "black face Fender Twin Reverbs" from the mid 60's). Like the raw beast that his playing was, he mostly plugged straight into the amplifier with no tone altering pedals or fuzz boxes getting in the way. Just plug in, turn up and spank it. The high pitched squeals heard on both live and some studio albums at the end of some songs could only be from a late 50's P-90 pick-up and a Fender amp turned up very loud and set on "bright".

Prices today for late 50's Les Paul T.V.s in good condition (much better than Johnny's) are about $3200 US dollars. You have to smile at the fact that Johnny, back in the early 70's, was paying $75 for them at pawn shops! Johnny will always be known in the vintage guitar community as bringing the Les Paul T.V. to the forefront. It is even hard to find another accomplished player who used this guitar. Fucking guy was even ahead of his time in that department too.

Beautiful examples of how the guitar sounds can be heard on cuts like "Chinese Rocks" (the crunch of the opening RRIF and the elephant sounding slides up and down the fret board) and the wonderful harmonics and opening boogie chords of "Mystery Girls".

By the way, forget about the "budget T.V.s" (namely by Epiphone) out today. Nothing sounds truer to Johnny's tone than an old piece of wood with a hot vintage P-90 pick-up.

You're either Rock 'n' Roll or you're K-Tel.

Thanks for teaching me that lesson Mr. Thunders! Life is too short for garbage tone.

He has his niche. What he brings is tone but Flea and Anthony make that band. I always found the Peppers entertaining when they were doing the crazy shit like the flaming hats, socks on balls, and the lightbulb outfits but now? Snore!

Frankly the only band that gave me goosebumps in years was seeing RUSH live again. Damn! I forgot how good those guys were!

I bet his pedalboard was much smaller back when he was creating interesting songs/riffs.

You need to look deeper into his playing and his catalog, because if you really checked him out I doubt you would say that, especially being a guitar player...

There's a version with a much cleaner and thought out sounding solo section, but this one is still cool...

John's newer stuff with the Chili Peppers... just suck. I like the older stuff, when he was a "background guitarist" and Flea took the lead with his Bass Guitar. That was totally bad ass.

The Peppers just looked like a bunch of dorks to me but they had some catchy tunes and were doing stuff onstage that was original but golly gee wiz, they are so far from being a favorite of mine. I'll put them with Janes Addiction for So-Cal heroin fueled gay wierdness that popped out some good sonic waves.

True as good as the Peppers are they could never hold a candle to The Mighty VH. On ANY level...

Almost true in The Pepp's case. Uplift was the epitome of that band IMO and that's when they were fuckin' tweaked out. However, Blood Sugar was epic and pushed them to the commercial crossover (so to speak) after which was nothing but a downward spiral. Fuck, even the B-Sides rocked from BSSM i.e. Soul to Squeeze and Sikkaminkinydinko (sp?) Cos I can hardly stomach ANYTHING post One Hot Minute and that album was mediocre at best. At least it still had a bit of attitude. Californication and on is just lame.

The guys in Van Halen all looked like they took a shower before they came to the gig. The would come out clean with styled hair then at the end of the show they are sweaty from the show and hot lights. Rock and rollers but not slobs at least in the Dave years.

But the Chilli Peppers to me looked like they hadn't wiped for a week. They had a nasty homeless druggie vibe to them. But then they came out big when the neo-hippie trend was taking off in the late 80's and early 90's. Dirty, herion pigs were popular like Cobain.

It's all true. Back when the red hot chili holes were touring in support of BSSM, they did a show here that I didn't support. Later on that same night, I was @ this party where the entire red hot chili holes band were. Flea was cool...I didn't even know who he was until someone told me it was Flea. The drummer was cool too....I knew who he was after he told me who he was. I told him this story about my friend's dog almost killing the Butthole Surfer's drummer's dog on Atlantic Boulevard years back. He was LOL. Anyway, I asked the friend who told me who Flea was where the other chili holes were, a bit later, and he informed me they were waiting on junk. I guess the junk eventually showed up, 'cause right as I was gettingthefuckoutofthere, the singer was walking around like Soupy Sales on XANAX.

Anthony Kriedis was a good looking enough guy but the junk turned him dopey, ugly, and he looks like he could remove his teeth at any moment.

The guitar player went to junkland and then some.
