R.I.P. Kelly Johnson - Girlschool Guitarist

Seems she lost her battle with cancer at age 49.

Veteran British female hard rockers GIRLSCHOOL have posted the following message on their official web site:

"It is with extreme sadness to tell you that Kelly Johnson, original member of GIRLSCHOOL, passed away on Sunday the 15th of July after fighting a six-year battle with cancer of the spine."

Along with Johnson, the classic lineup of GIRLSCHOOL included Kim McAuliffe (guitar), Enid Williams (bass) and Denise Dufort (drums). The band was an integral and major force in the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) movement, beginning with the release of its debut album, "Demolition" (1980), and continuing with the follow-up efforts, "Hit 'n' Run" (1981) and "Screaming Blue Murder" (1982).

Johnson originally left GIRLSCHOOL in 1984 after recording the band's fourth album, "Play Dirty", and moved to Los Angeles where she lived for the next 10 years. She rejoined GIRLSCHOOL in 1993 and moved back to the U.K. From 1993 until 2000 Kelly, Kim, Denise and Tracey Lamb toured Europe and the USA and recorded a live album in March 1995. Kelly decided to quit the music business for good in 2000 after recording her final album with GIRLSCHOOL, "Not That Innocent: 21st Anniversary" (2001).

I played with a group in the 80's and we opened for Girlschool several times. They were extremely nice and very FUN to hang out with. I still have the solid metal pick Kelly used that she swapped with me for one of mine way back then. Their big song at that time was "Dont call it Love."' Great memories!!!!!!

I am the origanal Bass player with Rock Goddess and have been in Girlschool for a total of 12 years.

I have been in Girlschool X3 over a 20 year period and I have never heard such disrespect for an Icon that you almost all have discredited.

I would like to see you arseholes get up and do what Kelly Johnson has done for Women in Rock.

Kelly was a great musician and I bet not one of you CUNTS could even play a fuckin Minor chord never mind a diminshed one, or even know what I'm talking about.

Thing is Tracey, there is nothing much you can do about someone posting an opinion even if it is something you vehemently oppose to. Opinions are like assholes. Everyone has one. (Ever hear that saying?)

My cousin passed away after battling cancer for 7 years. It was like a piece of my heart ripped out the day she passed. To watch her disappear in front of my eyes was like I was dying a little each day right along with her. Naturally Kelly's death has different meanings to different people. The people who knew her music, felt bad, or they didn't cause they had no connection with her. Those that live day to day with her who knew her intimately, naturally feel I am sure like I did about my cousin.

You can have her memory with you always, regardless of what anyone says. You KNEW her, we don't.

IF you are a alias just trying to make the board more interesting....you did your job as well. ;)

Not sure if (Tracey) your the real deal or not but you know what, welcome to the real world. Not everyone thinks that just because someone played in a band and (or) died they were very musically talented or beyond a joke or two at their expense.

I for one didn't like Girlschool one bit and can't say I never made a crack at the possibility of people in her band batting one or two for the team. Hell, I love the work Freddie Mercury and I have made my share of jokes about his Lifestyle. It's human nature so get over it.

In the end who cares,I know she had a positive effect on a lot of peoples lives and for that she will go down in my (and many others) book as a great human being and at the end of the day isn't that what its all about. Sorry for your loss.

As I have said before and I'll say again. Girlschool are playing in that Video and they played in all their videos that you will see.
I have known them since 1978 and had the pleasure of playing with them in Isreal as a dep for Gill who is playing bass in that clip. This was around the same time and I rehearsed and played with them so if anyone should know if they are really playing or not then it should be me.
Since then I have been in the band twice which totals 12 years and I still play with them from time to time. We are doing a tribute to Kelly later this month. So believe me I'm the only one amongst you that knows what they are talking about where Girlschool are concerned.

As for my puctuation and grammer. I was having a argument with Katie at the time and I dont think that was my priority. She was posting bullshit like you are. I have only tried to put the record straight.
