    Happy it's happening, but...

Strangest thing...I've waited over 20 years to see the boys come back together, and yeah, I'm happy the sun, moon, and Uranus lined up for them to do so...

For whatever reason, I just can't get overly pumped about it. I've tried. If this were 1996, yeah, I probably would be. If it were 2000 even, maybe.

But you know, it's been a quarter of a CENTURY since when...that's a crap pile of life in between, and life just hasn't stood still. Kids of my own, teaching 160 teenagers a day, etc...maybe my even keel is a sign that too much water has gone over the damn dam, at least for me personally.

I guess real life has a way of taking the luster off of things that used to matter so much more than they probably should have to begin with.

And, too, being down in South Georgia, no shows within a 10 hour drive. Maybe that was the kicker, I don't know.

I wish them well, I really do. I hope that they have a helluva time and kick out all the jams and jellies along the way, and everyone gets their moneys worth from the shows.

I just also wish I was 20 years younger. Oh well....

No bitterness, no poo pooing. It is what it is, and that's just the way it is.

With a rebel yell, she cries "more more more!"...

    I hear ya.

For the record, I guess I would like a brief synopsis from somebody here in the know as to why Mike A. isn't involved in this reunion.

What did he do to piss of Ed to the point of making a REAL VH reunion impossible? I am happy as hell that Dave and Ed are on the same page again... but my God...what did Mike do to basically get himself written out of the history books? It's got to be more than his association with Sam.

I think Eddie could have had his son do something in the band other than take Mikeys place.

I will go see them this fall, but once again I'll have this "something's missing" feeling.

Ahhh...more wistful whimperings from ol' Firebrand.

Thought you rode off into the sunset some time ago, cowpoke?

Said I'd come back when they did...

...and basically held true to my word.

I dunno...I really don't. I should be beside myself about all of this...

            I'm happy Dave's back.
I'm happy Mike's out. Cause, as Natra said, that fat fuck didn't stop "insulting" Dave during the last 22 years.. and maybe before 85 too..

I see your point, dear colleague (I'm a teacher too, with approximately the same number of teens in my classroom each year). Time has more or less washed up things, our own teen years keep slipping away, the futilities of youth have slowly but surely been relativized by grown-up prerogatives...
Yet, the "nearest" gig being over a dozen-hour drive isn't that much of a problem, you know... To me it would be a great improvement, though it would take less time by plane from Geneva or Paris - it's the €s I'll have to spend for a return ticket.
I'm almost sure I will spend the money for the Nov. 3rd gig in New Jersey, though. I consider I haven't been waiting that long to finally miss it, after a twenty-three-year penance.

Take this with a grain of salt.No insult here.

you ever make time for that motorcycle ride.. that day at the beach.. dinner with your lady ...camping with the kids... baseball game with junior...built that balsa wood rice paper airplane..build a back deck..
grab your honey and go to a rock concert/.?

No big ting it's just a concert.

I think it looks like a good time

                          Roth on a big stage

Odds are it won't be 25,000 teeny boppers .

I would love to go see some of the "younger shows" some of the latest bands rock, but the crowd would bugg the sh!t out of me.

Ive seen Bowie Rod Stewart Ozzy (not at Ozzfest) lately.Acts like that.

The thought of seeing Van Halen again with Roth fronting sounds too good to pass up.

I spend more money than.... a hotel, a little travel and what this concert will cost, drinking every month.

Luckily this concert is coming to KC not confirmed yet.. to a brand new building.... it doesn't complete untill oct07 .

The idea of a night out sounds good to me and I may go solo to St.Louis 2 days later.

                          my op

                            Oh, no insult taken, friend...

...I hear ye loud and clear.

I guess, in my heart, this isn't just a concert. See, I lived, ate, breathed and slept VH during the Golden Age. As a pro guitarist, I've always considered EVH to be the standard everything else was measured by. As a fan of entertainers, DLR always made me smile while at the same time keeping me engaged.

The fact that all this is happening and for whatever reason I ain't doing cartwheels and actually I feel like I've got it better in my life than any one of the boys in the band is a pretty strong sign that what I thought might be the last string connecting me to my own 'Golden Age' was severed a long time ago and I didn't even realize it.

I really do hope it turns out great...and who knows, if many of you here whose opinions I really respect deem it worthy and they come somewhere even remotely nearby on a weekend, I might take the plunge.

As far as an explanation of Mikey's absence, I've heard ramblings on here that it is a result of his being too buddy buddy with Sam the Sham.

                            Shame.

For the record, I, too, think an album of new material would be great.
