AC/DC's Ultimate Career-Spanning DVD Box Set 'Plug Me In' Due In October - Aug. 24, 2007

Columbia Records will release "Plug Me In" — the ultimate career-spanning DVD box set of live performances, interviews and more from AC/DC, the world's most electrifying rock and roll band — on Tuesday, October 16.

The first AC/DC release since the band came to Columbia Records earlier this year, the AC/DC "Plug Me In" DVD collection brings together for the very first time an astonishing five hours of definitive live concert and television performances — many of them previously unavailable — chronicling the ongoing career (now in its fourth decade!) of a groundbreaking rock and roll powerhouse whose music transcends the test of time.

"AC/DC has delivered the most dynamic rock and roll music in the world," said Steve Barnett, Chairman, Columbia Records. "Columbia is honored to be releasing this definitive career-spanning retrospective featuring many of AC/DC's finest filmed performances."

Disc One of the AC/DC "Plug Me In" DVD collection begins with a performance of "High Voltage" performed in October 1975 on Australia's "King of Pop" awards show. The first disc of "Plug Me In" is devoted to the band's formative years (1975-1979) with original lead singer, the late Bon Scott capturing the group in its full early glory with more than 20 performances including rare black-and-white video footage of the notorious St. Albans High School concert on March 3, 1976; the very first UK television appearance in July 1976; pristine live full-color stereo concert performances from Glasgow and Essex University in 1978; and three songs — including the very first public performance of "Highway To Hell" — from Netherlands television in 1979. Bonus material on Disc One includes a Bon Scott interview from November 1977; extraordinary band interviews from 1976; and four songs recorded live in Nice on December 15, 1979, one of Bon Scott's last concerts with the band before his tragic death on February 19, 1980.

Disc Two of the AC/DC "Plug Me In" DVD collection covers the band's second great epoch: the Brian Johnson era which began with the release of "Back In Black" in 1980 and continues to this day. In addition to more than 20 performances drawn from three decades of concerts around the world — including an extremely rare Japanese television appearance from February 1981, blistering '80s and '90s sets from Detroit to Moscow, incredible footage from 1996's "Ballbreaker" tour (including the "Beavis & Butthead" intro), and 21st century barnburners in Paris, Munich, and Toronto — "Plug Me In" includes a fantastic array of bonus material including the AC/DC Donnington interview on the "Old Grey Whistle Test" (August 1984) and AC/DC's in-concert performance of "Rock Me Baby" with THE ROLLING STONES.

A deluxe collector's edition of "Plug Me In" — containing a third DVD of 21 additional rare performances spanning both the Bon Scott and Brian Johnson eras as well as a treasure trove of facsimile reproductions of authentic AC/DC memorabilia — will also be available for a limited time beginning Tuesday, October 16.

The AC/DC "Plug Me In" DVD box set is both a Holy Grail for aficionados of AC/DC as well as an ideal and comprehensive introduction to the music and history of a pioneering band that continues to define the electrifying possibilities of rock and roll.

Formed in Sydney, Australia in 1973 by brothers Angus and Malcolm Young (still the most formidable electric guitar team in rock), AC/DC released its first album, "High Voltage", in 1975. The group has gone on to sell nearly 70 million albums in the U.S. alone, making AC/DC one of the five best-selling bands in American music history. The "Back In Black" album has achieved RIAA double diamond status, for sales in excess of 21 million copies in the United States, and is the U.S.'s fifth largest-selling album ever.

AC/DC was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003.

Why not?

Almost all of their promos were released on "Family Jewels".

Surely four hours of different stuff should whet your appetite?

Their top, IMO. My younger bro gave me a copy of video footage from a ("the"?) 1978 Glasgow gig (I recognized a few exact tunes that were put on "If you want blood... you've got it").
It's the most exciting live album I know, hands down. It's the one I've played most since 1983 when an uncle copied it for me. Getting video stuff was awesome.

It makes no sense:

The stuff is there, the fans want it, it would make everyone money, the tour would help promote it, and it would help secure their legacy.

There must have been an active decision NOT to do it at some point, because it seems so obvious....

Back in Black - Double Diamond status!!! This is incredible. This is a band that understood the legacy of Bon Scott and hired Brian Johnson that kept the same attitude and mentality.

I felt the material was not that strong after 'For Those About To Rock' 1981

Ok you would get the occasional gem as the years ticked by but,

Gone were the days of track by track every one is a winner albums such as

Let There Be Rock
Powerage
Highway To Hell
Back In Black

Anyways still a cool band

Could be, I prefered the production of Vanda & Young.

Guitars way upfront in the mix, riffs that others bands would crawl over broken glass to have created.

No doubt.

Downside for both is the second disc of this AC/DC set doesn't have much of interest for me, and a Van Halen one would probably have one disc for Roth, one for Hagar...

Not sure if I'll get the AC/DC one or not...

:rockit2: Nice!! I got the 3 disc set today. It rocks! The footage from the St Albans High School is sweet. They bang out a nasty version of TNT for all the kiddies.

The video archive these guys must have is staggering. There's so many sources here & yet there's nothing from the Let There Be Rock movie included. They must have hundreds of complete shows stashed away.

AC/DC has really embraced the DVD format & are good at getting the stuff out there. Let There Be Rock can't be too far from release.

Fuckin' A... 'Guns for Hire', live from Detroit... These guys rule.

So, I'm flippin' through disc 2 & during the bonus features there's an interview from the 1984 Donington Monsters Of Rock show. They ask Angus if theres any competition between AC/DC & Van Halen. Angus says 'No, not really. They are more of a , what would you say... a pop band & we're more of a rock n' roll band'

Then it cuts to Dave for a quick second & he says 'There's liable to be a sense of competition...' and then it cuts him off... WTF is that?

Swiped it up yesterday night.

Pretty comprehensive, although the stuff after the 1983 Flick Of The Switch tour wasn't of that much interest to me...but there was SO much on there from the mid 1970s to 1983 that it was a far cry from, say, the KISSOLOGY 2 set (where the thrid disc in that set is gonna gather a lot of dust).

It IS kinda odd how it basically jumped from 1983 to 1991, though.

Suppose that could be part of it, but then Rudd was on the set for the first disc and part of the second (is there a 3-disc deluxe set of this? I only got two discs on the one I bought)...

Would have been neat to have had some of the more well-known tunes from 1985-1988 (Sink The Pink, Shake Yer Foundations, Who Made Who, Heatseeker) thrown on the second disc instead of the repeats of Whole Lotta Rosie/TNT/etc.(Bon era stuff) with Brian singing them, if only because they were repeats on the set rather than the fact that it was Brian singing them...

Funny how I paid so little attention to what Rudd was doing with the band until much later; that dude just had the ability to lock into a fucking groove like a motherfucker.

Did you see the interview in the bonus section of the 2nd disc when they are talking about Donnington? Angus says there's no rivalry with Van Halen because Van Halen is more of a pop band! What the fuck ever!

Then Angus says people say they've made the same album 11 times. He says "really they are lying, it's actually the 12th time." LOL. It's true, but for the most part it's all been good. Well not lately but for a long time it was all good.

I tried but no one(friends) backed my ass! So another lost dream! BUT FUCK THAT! VH/DAVE!! NOW MAde up for many years of BULLSHIT! DIG? :hula:

The reviews for this have been great. I am looking forward to it very much (thinking it'll probably be an Xmas present, as many hints have been dropped.)

I love it when bands do things like this....

Did you see the interview in the bonus section of the 2nd disc when they are talking about Donnington? Angus says there's no rivalry with Van Halen because Van Halen is more of a pop band! What the fuck ever!

He kinda has a point...but only just...they do have catchier hooks and more commercial sounds at times...Dave's R&B influence can be seen at times.

Not a pop band...but certainly more radio-friendly.

Is it out in the UK today?

Will have to see if I can pick it up on my way to the train station.

Sweet. Can't wait for them to tour as I never saw them live and they were THE band that got me in hard rock.
