I found this at my local record store Friday, and finally got done watching it.

Fucking amazing.

Lotsa clips of the Plasmatics and interviews with band members, minus one...due to an apparent feud, Richie Stotts is not mentioned, not interviewed, and can apparently be seen only a few times in live footage.

Comments about this can be found at the amazon.com page for it:

Here is the editorial review from that page:

Banned in London, busted in Milwaukee, the legendary Wendy O. Williams and the Plasmatics caused a seismic cultural shock still felt today. They pioneered the mohawk, the fusing of punk and metal and did shows including the blowing up of cars yet to be matched. Labeled 'the greatest punk band in the world' by Tom Snyder on his 1981 TV show, by 1982 their next album was hailed by the LA Times as the best heavy metal since AC/DC. This 2 hour 'rockumentary', much never before released spans the full 10 jaw-dropping years, the arrests, triumphs and challenges, interviews with critics, band and crew members plus over an hour of bonus footage that could be a DVD itself.

Ok, now for my review.

It does not get into a LOT of detail, but gives a GREAT general history of The Plasmatics.

No mention is made of anyone in the band after the last breakup in 1988.

And there is not much biographical info of the founding members, aside from Wendy.

Some idiot on the Amazon page bitches about the DVD focusing too much on Wendy.

Fuck that worthless sack of shit!

If it weren't for Wendy, there would be NO Plasmatics.

Stupid fucker.

Several things are true, regardless of band politics:

Wendy was WAY ahead of her time.

She ran through the punk scene in the late 70s, and as Metal became mainstream, she changed the direction of the Plasmatics accordingly.

By the time the Plasmatics were winding down in the mid-80s, she could have been considered the first female thrash vocalist on the planet.

The fucking music was very intense fucking METAL.

Her and Wes Beech actually did a RAP METAL album in the late 80s. They had intended for it to be a seperate project, and did not want Wendy's name on it, but somehow, it DID wind up on the cover.

This was a fucking decade before Limp Korny Biskit and those stupid fuckers took Rap Metal mainstream.

She also was into health foods, and was a fierce critic of corporate greed, pollution, and corruption in the government.

She did a Plasmatics album called Maggots: The Album...a concept album set 25 years in the future, when the polar ice caps are beginning to show an acceleration of melting, etc.

And this album was recorded in 1987!

She was an extremely smart, tough, provacative and creative woman.

Goddammit....it sucks that she took her own life in 1998. She was only 48.

But then, what more of a perfect way for her to go?

By her own hand, and of her own free will?

Sounds just like Wendy.

I say this DVD is well worth it. I learned a LOT that I did not know, and saw lots of live footage, interviews, and more that I thought were a good overview of the Plasmatics 10-year run.

She was a unique, extreme and original artist.
