We in the west get bitter when the Federal government gives in to Quebec...for example you guys get the lions share of Equilization payments with no controls put in place to limit your social program spending.
The rest of Canada can not afford what you guys do...Alberta could try buy they are hard core Conservative...they are not geared toward socialistic programs, they would rather let the private sector provide service rather than public.

The fact is that in the West just over 100 years ago a large parcel of land was split into two provinces...Alberta and Saskatchewan.
The reason to create another province was to take the territory away from the NWT in order to create a tax base for schools and services. Farming and mining where taking off as the fur trade died and people where moving west.
There was a push to create one large province but Ottawa would have non of that.
THey created two...because they did not want one large province larger than Ontario.

There is a reason Ontario is the economic hub...and they want to keep it that way.

There was talk of moving the parliament more central into Manitoba...that never happened either.
