    Return of the Political Compass

If you have been here a while, you'll remember this one. The graph with the X and Y axis which categorizes you not as merely "left" or "right" but also into categories of "libertarian" and "authoritarian".

Now here's the scary part. Take a look at where all the current 2008 Presidential candidates are....

Guess that should put to rest any bullshit about how "liberal" Hillary is?

Take the test yourself and post the results in this thread.

    ------------------------------

    FORD's results:

    Economic Left/Right: -9.00
    Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -6.41

Yeah, I didn't get that question either. Maybe it was left over from the Reagan days?

It is a flawed compass. I'm almost as far to the left as Ford. :p

Well, if it's a US poll, but you're answering it from a Canuck perspective, that might skew your results a little. Weren't you the one who said that your Conservatives were to the Left of our "Liberals"?

I'm not sure you belong in Kucinich territory, but I'm not surprised at all to find you left of our DLC types and definitely the neocon Republicans.

But for the benefit of our friends from the Great White North, here's a graph of the Canadian political spectrum, shown by party (as of 2005)

I'm assuming that rating for the Conservative party is an average, and that the Harper wing of the party would probably be somewhat to the right of that, but judge for yourselves.

I figured a question is a question and it should place me close...and it did...just left of where I think I am.

And...Yes...it was me that said our Conservatives where left of your "Liberals"...I screwed up...I meant to say Democrats and it was too late to go back and fix that.

With the thread on restoring democracy I wanted to look at this again.

It is amazing how most of your candidates are to the right...the far right in many cases.

It is scary to see that you do not have very many people in the mushy middle.

                            There is not much balance.

What is the reason for that?

                            Corporate money?

A different way of thinking...as far as power or social issues goes?

to be fair, though, that's because somebody ELSE, not the candidates, themselves, answered the questions for them. such as the:

"If economic globalisation is inevitable, it should primarily serve humanity rather than the interests of trans-national corporations."

question. my strong guess is that most of the candidates got "Strongly disagree" put in their answers, even if they don't actually feel that way...
