What a great band. They have been blowing up my cd and media players for the past several months. Between the dual guitar attack and the incredible songwriting there was just too much talent in that band. This thread is a tribute to one of the most underrated bands of all time.

Bought the new editon of the "Live & Dangerous" DVD on Saturday - very nice! :D

Lizzy are a unique band who manage to show-off without damaging the songs's impact. Their albums are just great song after great song, great riff after great riff and amazng solo after amazing solo. Phil was an exceptional lyricist who could do incredibel things with very simple words and images. But more than that he had a unique voice: rock n roll but smooth and rich, which allowed him to put down amazng performances on ballads.

There really is no one who can touch them....

Lizzy were (and are) a great rock/pop blend.

And I wouldn't trade any of my CD's away.

I know these 2 get played a lot but there are reasons for that. They are great songs! 2 of my favorites. As a kid I always knew Boys are Back In Town and Jailbreak. I think in the summer before 8th grade, 1980, my friend Gerald Overshiner and I were going through his mom's records and found Jailbreak. I'd been playing guitar for 3 years at that point. The 2nd solo from Cowboy Song came on an blew my mind! I still love it.

I really need to pick that up. The BBC shows on Classic VH1 are great. I'm sure this is better. I've read that the diehard Lizzy fans are kind of pissed they didn't get much footage they hadn't seen before. That's probably what we all will do if/when any CVH stuff comes out. lol.

I have to say Lynott's and Springsteen's lyrical styles are insanely similar. They both can paint that very vivid picture of a time, place and environment by using those simple words, only Lynott's band rocked harder.

Great Band, I dont understand the "underrated" tag you give
em, R'nR Dork.. When I was a young un, they were one
of the most respected Rock outfits in the world.
Perhaps you mean they dont get their dues now ??

Cowboy Song, thats fookin grate !!

That's exactly what I mean. I hate sounding like the old man I am but kids just don't listen to this stuff anymore. Music would be that much better if they did and maybe took or even stole a little influence from Thin Lizzy. I found out this morning while dropping off my 3 y.o. that she likes the Detroit 76 boot I had playing in the car today. Maybe there is hope.

I wonder how they never cracked the US even after blowing Queen away during the live shows. All the classic rock fan knows is Whiskey and the boys.

Nice pics up there. One of the best bands ever probably.

Cool couple hour interview on XM last night with Scott Gorham.

They should of been bigger in North America IMO...sad that only two songs you can hear on FM here are Boys and Jailbreak...

Agreed, they were a great band and totally underrated here in NA. Fucking had the 8 tracks to these guys! Loved every fucking thing they did. Killer twin guitars, great drummer and Phil's vocals were awesome. His bass playing was more like a guitarist approach than a bassist but still cool.

I dont know if it was an unauthorised biography, or a book
wriiten by an ex, but I remember reading how Phil Lynott
used to love having a whack of smack, right before he
jizzed ! He would literally bang away, get close to the finish
line, reach out of his bed and grab a pre-loaded syringe,
whack the smack then blow his wad !!

What a Rush ! What a Rockstar !
He burned out, never faded away.....

DVD Description
This DVD is a treasure trove for Thin Lizzy fans, compiled from content from broadcaster RTE in the band’s native Ireland which has never before been released on home video. On Stage At The National Stadium Dublin is described as the "Holy Grail" for Thin Lizzy fans, capturing the band at their very best in front of an adoring home crowd in Dublin. After various changes in the preceding years the classic 4-piece line-up was finally in place. This is the only live footage of many of the classics from the Fighting era. The show’s original audio has been newly restored and remastered for 2012, allowing fans to rightly hear the band in their full glory.

Renegade: The Philip Lynott Story is a unique film offering an in-depth, fly-on-the-wall discussion with Philip himself, while The Sun Goes Down was shot in Ireland during the band’s 1983 Thunder and Lightning tour featuring exclusive behind-the-scenes footage as well as two live tracks ("Are You Ready" from the show in Belfast and "The Sun Goes Down" from Dublin).

Bonus Features:

"6/5 Live show": a special RTE TV performance presented by Dave Heffernan featuring two live tracks "Are You Ready" and "Whiskey In The Jar"
"Old Town" promo video produced for RTE featuring Phil Lynott as a solo artist
