Have noticed Dave pulled this solo routine out of mothballs (riding around the stage on an oversized, inflatable microphone) and is concluding the Van Halen shows with it.

Is it just me, or is this routine mildly cringeworthy, especially in contrast with the performance Roth delivers for the rest of the show?

Cringeworthy

It's a laugh. A bit of classic Dave buffoonery which this regimented and scripted tour needs more of, IMO.....

I'll tell you what , though. I'd rather see him trade the inflatable mic. for one flying riser leap at the conclusion of "Jump" ! (see avatar)

in one video he rides it, falls flat on his ass and is laughing hiss ass off about it...we would have missed that classic... ;)

this mic has the vh logo on it. dave's recent venues were too small for such a large prop.

Hmmmmm...DTE in DETROIT...Too small?!?

IN a word...WRONG

It'd be funny as shit if Wolfie bounced around the VIP ramp on a Hippity Hop.

Where's that option??
:D

Ed's gonna do his solo while riding a tri-cycle.

The giant dmick is solo stuff, so it's surprising that it's been put on the menu of this tour.
Dave clearly doesn't deliver as much physically as he got us used to; I won't complain, personally, as his vocals really make it!
But I'm wondering why he just won't jump around at all... Does he have such big trouble with his knee and/or back that he's unable to do more than walk around about as Ozzy will?
But then again, that's all right, as long as the vocals are there as they are! :)

I'm sure that he could handle some jumping. but he's not 25 anymore

He said Hippity Hop!

I could live without the large microphone.

It's all Rock n Roll.

Doesn't need to do it though....

Hey, the microphone is better than recicled "I'm gonna fuck yer girlfriend, pal" jokes.

It's a classic. I don't see anything wrong with it.

Paul Stanley, on the other hand...

Cheers! :bottle:

I saw it backstage on the VIP tour in Greensboro and thought it would look lame in whatever capacity it was used. I was right. But it was a great fucking concert....

The giant mic is fun! And that's what rock 'n roll should be, FUN. Keep it in I say because it's a lotta fun and gives ya a good laugh. Besides it's better than Hagar performing without a net....ugh.

Maybe since they let him do that, then they might add a couple of "EEAS" songs for 2008.

That "Magic Bus" quote in "Romeo Delight"... Still wondering WTF it's doing there, really.

But then again, it's such a detail, and almost all the rest of the set is so kickass... that Who stuff is no big issue, is it?

The Microphone was funny shit when Dave flew it into the giant crotch of an inflatable female.

It's totaly out of place on VH's toned down act with a zit faced kid up there. The new VH is about as sexual as a pair of Depends adult diapers. Thank God he's not jacking Jack Daniels all over.

Another thing. I hate the giant red flag. It looks like a communist celebration or something. Get a big flag with the VH logo on it in a different color and it would look cool.

The mic deal goes along with JUMP pretty well..I'm not a huge fan of either, but Dave seems to enjoy both so...whatever...

what he really needs to drop is his pants...I mean...um... that silly sailer hat. Yeah...actually all of the hats kind of give me the queerios.

I actually think that The Magic Bus part in Romeo's Delight worls really well, adds something to the performance, makes it even more of an "event".....
