A Very Merry Christmas (belated) and Happy New Year to you Elvis!!!

It's funny that you bring up this topic cos I was going to search for a similar one related to Paul Reed Smiths. Meaning, my friend just purchased the UGLIEST guitar and he spent friggin' three grand plus for it!!!

Anyway, I also went to Guitar Center with him so he could custom order the bugger and I came across some of the UGLIEST axes that I've ever seen.

No disrespect to the fallen cos I do respect Dimebag Darrell, etc. I just was never into PANTERA nor that type of music. Anyway, his death was tragic so I'll move on... :(

K, whilst my pal was ordering this UGLY PRS, I was checking out their showroom inventory. Oh dear, were these things ugly? :o

YUCK!!! (http://www.gearhounds.com/Buy_Dean_Dimebag_Darrell_Abbott_tribute_guitars.ht ml)

Alright and beyond those, check out this axe of which my friend purchased...

http://www.woodsys.com/files/pics/PRSce22.jpg

It's that finish but it has ducks and shit on the fretboard and gold hardware to boot. The thing was nearly four grand when all was said and done.

Oh well, it's only like his twentieth axe and he makes enough money but whatever cos I think the thing's ugly as fuck. Not too mention, I don't see why people think PRS's are the bee's knee's anyway?

I prefer the tones from SG's or Paul's anyday over those but whatever...

I mean PRS do make some pretty guitars but for that kind of money I can think of many others, you know?

Again and no offense intended to either DEAN or PAUL REED SMITH guitar brand fans. :(

I just don't see the big whhopiditydoo for that kind of $$$?

Another one.

YES, I dig SRV's music but this axe isn't even good looking and for $17,000.00 to boot.

Again, I'll say the same for the "Frankie" rep going for $25,000.00 cos they're dumb.

Anyhoo, this one's apparantly called "Lenny" and is both a Fender and Guitar Center "exclusive!!!" The damn thing looks more like an axe one would find maybe in a pawn shop or a yard sale. What I mean by that remark is where one would/could land a sweet deal for someone else's unknown treasure. Cos sometime's people luck out at those. I'm just tryin' to say that seventeen grand for this is a bit fucked up, IMO.

K and speaking of other "ugly" guitars, etc...

This also shows how I really don't get out that much anymore. :o

While we were at Guitar Center and my pal was ordering that PRS, I wandered into the bass room. They had a used Hofner violin, McCartney, Beatlesque bass going for about $1100 bucks. Well, no one was in there so I plugged it in. Fuck, if that wasn't one of the lightest and unnest basses I've ever played. They had their Guitar Center musical soundtrack going on in the background so I played along with "Slowride" by Foghat and had a blast. If I had spare change for that bass lying around, I'd have purchased it right then and there cos it was comfortable, light, great action and a nice tone.

Again and back to the initial topic at hand, the bass is ugly, IMO. It's similar to this one except it was a glossy, natural finish with the mother of pearl pickguard and all sorts of tacky gold hardware.

Regardless, fun to play and has now made my wish list. lol

Still, one ugly bass, IMO.

It was in a pawn shop for $350

His wife Lenny and six friends pitched in $50 each and bought it for his birthday...

And no way is a "Beatle Bass" ugly...

I think Dime would be seriously pissed off if he came back from the dead and walked into Guitar Center...

Dude,

I really hope you know that I'm neither nor would EVER be dissing SRV. I'm just sayin' that replica and in person was... ughhhhhh. IMO

I knew my posts prior might be taken in the wrong way. :(

It's just that the "Lenny" looked, well... Extremely ugly and not something I'd pat seventeen grand for. Then again (repeating myself) "Frankie" is a total piece of crap but IF I could afford it, well, yes, I'd have prolly purchased one of the replicas. :o

Regarding the Hofner...

I dunno if it's exactly "ugly" but it is somewhat goofy-looking. Especially the one I played. Nonetheless, that thing played like a friggin' dream and I want one!!!

Wanna hear something weird?

Well, I've seen that VH1 "Behind The Music" on PANTERA a few times now. Even though I was never into those guys, I cannot help but choking up when they talk about Dime's murder. Seriously, it busts me up badly. :(

I'm going to agree with you regarding Guitar Center cos I miss the old days when there were all of these local shops and now there's just some musical WAL-MART. It sucks.

Buying instruments shouldn't be that way. Oh well?

Hey, did you ever do anything with that old Strat yet? Also, ever make any good use out of that Ibanez neck?

Alright and excluding the Dime models, that DEAN company has always put out some of the UGLIEST axes that I've ever seen.

Example one would be whatever model this one is...

http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r273/DeanSlime396/Picture079.jpg

I even remember thinking they were creepy when I first started playing in 1983.

Also, I saw some rathe ugly B.C. RICH guitars as well while I was there.

There's yet another brand I've never played nor have known anyone who's owned one. I guess they must do alright to still be around after all of these years but damn, they've created some of the ugliest guitars I've ever seen over the years, no?

Come on Elvis, you have to have one of these or something similar as an intregal part of your collection? :p

Oh the heck with it and as long as I'm on a roll, here's yet another on that they had of which was absolutely ugly and not a cool replica.

The Clash's Joe Strummer Tele.

http://toguitars.com/blogbilder/0707/joe-strummer-tele.jpg

It didn't even look worn nor battered. It looked like a bad paint job and the works of someone TRYING to make it looked lived in.

Shoot, even the knobs of which are both apparantly and supposedly rusted looked completely fake.

Has anyone seen this?

The only Deans I'd go for would be either the Dime ML or a Dean Caddy.

But hey, ya want ugly?

Try a Jackson Warrior.
