Safe to say at this juncture that Roth and Ed needed each other in terms of making a splash in a big way. Have needed each other for awhile, only Roth plainly realized it much sooner than the Van Halens.

Fact is, on a large scale, nobody gives two shits anymore what either of them does unless they're doing it together. Sure, you have the diehard fan bases that'll go see Roth solo shows forever and lap up whatever porn soundtrack wanking Ed manages to record between drinking binges, but pandering to shrinking bases is hardly the definition of success by anyone's standards.

Roth and EVH were and are the core of VH's greatness, even when Hagar was singing for them (hee hee). No amount of hsitorical revisionism is gonna negate that.
