I'm having an argument with some dude on utube about whether this is actually Dave singing RWTD or not. Anybody know for sure?

Just for the record, I asked that this thread be closed since there was already one on the subject.

Anyhoo, I was actaully arguing that is WASN'T Dave. But, I'm beginning to come around now. I guess it is him. I just wish someone had some info about this track. Who got a hold of it, ya know?

the best vocal performance on a hard rock record.

Sounds great even isolated from the rest, doesn't it?

was that Dave?

ow Yeah :hitch:

I'd say yes.

Otherwise, it's the deadest-on impression I've ever heard.

With a computer based audio editing or recording system can't you just isolated and record any part of a CD?

I always thought that if someone recorded a 4 trac(whatever trac) song at a studio cant you have a 4 trac at home and just reverse what is in there and have just the vocals or just the bassline?

I can dial all the treble out or all the bass on my home system.

Like anyone?

I always thought the same could be done if you had a home studio board.

Perhaps we need a Audio Geek in here for this one.

I would say it's Dave and the vocals have been extracted from a original recording...Yes/No?

Yep...

It sounds a bit shakey to me without the music, but it's the original...

Nah, unless you have the master tracks or some vocal extracting
software that I am yet to see, what we have heard here is
a master vocal track. You cant take a mixed down track and
suddenly split it back into the individual tracks again - *yet*

I say *yet* as nothing would surprise me in the future with
all these new computer based filtering algorithms emerging.
But as of today, that vocal is from a master tape.
(Still with individual tracks). Would be cool to hear
Eddie's parts...

Hyman, I will get this plugin and try it out, unless theres
been an incredible leap forward in this technology over
the last 12 months, the tracks we are listening to are
masters. I really dont think its an extracted track.

Fuck, that plugin would be the holy grail if they could
isolate the individual instruments and vocals from
the masters. Remastering would be mind blowing.

Hummarstra

I think Panamark is right. You'd have to use the masters.

I'm no recording engineer, that's for sure, but aren't the vocals easier to extract than say the bass since they often are added last? I know it all gets "mixed down" eventually...

I remember I used to be able to isolate the guitar and the bass on VHI simply by turning the balance one way or the other.

Otherwise, please let me know how it works when you d/l it. That's why I posted the links - so someone more talented than me in computers and recording would mess with it and post the results! :D

Thank you for the info

As for now I will say who can get thier hands on a master and release it without grief?

If possible I bet all of this new tech would be easier with a digital recording than a analog.

If we don't have this tech, I bet a sound engineer has the ability?

All you are doing is isolating specific bits and screening the rest.

That is why I still think Album(vinyy) is more REAL.

Smoother.

I am not shure though, just talking, out of my league.

I thought cool edit was able to do a vocal extraction ?

you can hear when he sings the music in the backround. sounds like the original track to me.

Yeah Im gonna give it a go, but even on their own demos, you can
still hear audio artifacts. ie: its not perfect. Problem is, is anything
else that sits on the same frequency as the vocal will get extracted
too... Thats the big challenge, to differentiate between vocal audio
and instrumental audio that coeexist on the same frequencies.
I think they will eventually get this happening. This Vocal Trap
plugin looks better than some others I have tried, but even their
own demos dont get me that excited.

Def a master vocal track (1 of 2) of Dave from the original session - and it's fairly raw, before EQ/compression/EFX on the final mix.

Love it, as noted before. Would love to hear all the others - and who the heck slipped/leaked this out, too?
