I think its cool that Ed is letting his hair go gray instead of coloring it, like Leno or John Stewart. I think he looks good.

I'll give him his due on that...........

Very cool... and the pic is fairly recent.. I think Ed didn't get the white guitar until late November.

What a trip. Ed is one proud Mofo.

Good for you Ed, now work on getting us a full Van Halen lineup for '08.

Somebody better get Dave on a cover or I'm gonna go postal!

Correct.

His debut with the white was at San Diego and Chip said it was the only time he needed ear plugs. Ed fell in love with it and has 3 he has rotated on tour since.

Wolfie still looks out of place. He looks like a kid dressed as a rock star. Funny that......

For his age, I don't think Ed looks bad.

Cool that they did the cover though...

Ed looks healthy and proud. Nice.

If these guys are truly, "A New Band", then the next cover of a magazine that the Sisters do, should include Dave.

Wonder if Dave needs permission from Ed to do any interview?

Recorded together, yes.
Toured - I can't think of any parent/child that have toured in the same band together. Steve Harris and his daughter toured in 2006 together, but that was different bands.

LOL ! ya know, I hadnt even thought about women's bands..
Wouldnt exactly call those gals Rockers, but at least you managed
to think of a mother/daughter combo...

I can think of stacks of brothers, but no other father/son
combos.. I'm sure there is another example, but I'll be
buggered if I can think of one...

I kept thinking of the Beatles, John Lennon/Julian/Sean
(yet knew they never toured) and Ringo was there staring me
in the face, good one ! I totally forgot about Ringo and his son...

The kid needs a personal trainer. His mom is in the weight losing business and Wolf needs to follow mom's example. The shades make him look cool. It's a good picture. I really wish the best for the kid. This tour sure was a big bite to swallow for a begining bass player. I think he got shoved into something over his head too soon but we will see what the kid has down the road.

Ringo is a cool fucker, how could his son go wrong ?
Ringo was never one of the world's most astonishing drummers,
but what he did, fitted perfectly with the Beatles.

Love his work on Abbey Rd...

Dickey Betts and his son are in the same band, if I'm not mistaken, although you could hardly call it a "major" band.

Shooter Jennings played some drums with his father Waylon when Waylon did Lolapalooza in 1995, but that's closer to Ed and Wolf on the 2004 tour (just jamming) than this tour (where Wolf is, as we know, a member of the band).

Can't think of too many other examples! I KNOW there's one more that I am aware of... it's bugging me... I just can't think of it.

Frank Zappa and Dweezil have played together. Dweezil has been playing guitar a very long time and very well. Ed produced his first record.

Good calls everyone, but were these headline major Rock tours ??
So far I think the Ringo/Zak example would be the closest,
and I'm betting that tour was not of the proportions we are seeing now.

I'm really starting to think this is a big first !

Eddie is innovating once again, first he invents a new guitar and style,
and now he invents a genetic bassist !! lol....

Ya know I did think of this combo, but I never knew she toured
with him.. I thought it was a one off video type deal...

If she did tour with Ozzy, then its just one song, Wolf is playing
the whole show !

This is a great pic, IMO.

It's great when kids get to a certain age and size when the could physically kick their parent's ass if they wanted to. :D

Not for anything...I am not suggesting Wolf would do such a thing...it just strikes me as funny when the son ends up this much bigger than the dad. And the kid is still growing, I would assume. :D

Oh no, Ed has let himself go. He`s starting to look like Mel Gibson. Ed looked great last year, with short dark hair. Maybe he`s trying tp piss image conscious Dave off, with his new look.

Thanks Eyes!!! I'm pretty stoked about the stars! Guess I'd have more if I contributed more huh?! lol I'm not sure how many times Frank and Dweezil played together, but I do remember them jamming on several songs way back in the day, one of them was "Whipping Post". As far as Eddie and Wolf goes, I'd like to see them in the studio writing some new stuff for Dave to sing. Here's to hoping! I say.......

Not quite sure what Wolf has done to deserve making the cover, though...

Essentially, all the kid is doing is copying MA's bass lines...is that really noteworthy, musically?

Don't get me wrong; have a feeling if it weren't for the the kid, Dave wouldn't have been asked back into the fold...

Whatever. With Guitar World, anytime Zakk Wylde or EVH so much as farts in public, GW feels compelled to report on it and give them another cover shot.

Panamark
02-04-2008, 09:51 PM
Terry, you gotta admit the whole Father/Son in a rock band
angle does have a certain amount of novel appeal.

And this is Edward Van Halen we are talking about,
"The" official coverboy of the century for Guitar World...

I noticed in the U tubes that Ed wasnt playing the Franken fuckup guitar as much...has he gone back to the Peaveys or is this some new/rehash for Fender?

It's the new Wolfgang that is coming out via his EVH brand. It's built by fender.

Eddie should be made to play the Frankenstrat !

It just looks way more Halen than any freakin Wolfgang..

The dude has endorsed so many guitars over the years that it's pretty much meaningless, anyway.

Best thing that was ever associated with his name was the Floyd Rose locking tremolo system.

The Wolfgang guitar is propperly named. It's looks like a big blob just like the kid it's named after. Wolfie sould play a bass with the same shape and call it the "Fat Ass Wolfie". :D
