View Full Version : Mike Anthony's comments at NAMM

Former VAN HALEN bassist Michael Anthony was on hand at the NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants) show in Anaheim, California to sign autographs for hundreds of fans at the Ampeg and Dean Markley booths on January 17 before jetting over to the Barrett-Jackson Auto Auction in Scottsdale, Arizona to check out all the killer rods and sweet rides up on the auction block. According to a posting on Anthony's web site, "Michael is gearing up to join SAMMY HAGAR AND THE WABOS for a Vegas concert at the Palms Casino on February 2."

Anthony told Billboard.com last October that he's not going out of his way to keep tabs on VAN HALEN's current reunion tour with singer David Lee Roth but that "people tell me things, and I heard the tour's been fine." He admitted that he was "bummed out for a little bit" after being booted from the band — and especially after he was temporarily replaced from album cover images on the group's web site — but that he's largely over it.

"I'm totally fine with it now 'cause it is what it is," Anthony explained. "There's no use dwelling on it or whining about it. The fans know the band. They know what we've done, and I'm really proud of the history of the band. But I'm focusing on having fun and doing what Sam [Sammy Hagar] and I are out doing right now. As long as I keep that perspective on it, that's good."

But deep in the back of his mind, he's furiously pissed off.

Have "fun" with Spam, Mike...

Yeah, there's no way he couldn't be pissed is there. If I was him, I'd be pissed too.

Rejection hurts.

He's showed some class by not bad mouthing the sisters though.

Yeah its a shame, wish he would go out there solo.
This constant alignment with Hagar annoys me,
if Hagar would fire his bassist and actually put
MA in fulltime, ok, you could understand..

But fuckit, he is as big, if not bigger star than
Hagar is, bet he has played to far more people
in his life than Roy has.

You gotta give Mike one thing: He has not trashed Ed, Alex or Dave. At least not that I've seen or read.

Mike needs to put his own band together and distance himself from Sam. He looks like such a gimp hanging with Sammy playing old VH tunes. Hey Mike, Ed said you were canned because you never added anything original to the band. Maybe Ed has a point.

You have not read first hand reports from a Michael Anthony
Birthday Bash then.....
Apparently an extremely popular event to walk around calling
Dave an asshole.. The whole family gets in on it too..

Publicly though, I cant recall any bad words...
in return Dave has not bad mouthed MA either
apart from calling him "The Bassplayer"
As much an insult as Eddie Van Heinekin....
(Good natured old friends nicknames I imagine)

I'd be interested in reading up on that... any linkage to it?

it's not really a surprise though... not like the sisters weren't saying the same shit a few short years ago.

H mmmm, not exactly what he was saying when he was in the band in regards to DLR. He was all about this is who the band is (w/ Spam)

On the outside looking in now. Too bad. Too bad.

For crying out loud, form a super group or something. Being a sideshow freak for Hagar is degrading. Its obvious they are good buds but damn man, stand on your own two feet for once.

Linkage, now thats gonna be hard, I believe it was posted here
by somebody who was actually at the party. Socal Chelle
might have been involved. Actually I think there was more than
one poster from the various Van Halen fan websites that
attended and posted the same thing. Perhaps one of the people
Im referring to will read this and set it straight. I remember
feeling pissed off at MA for the first time ever after reading
that.

Im sure MA would have a lot more respect if he didnt
openly rely on Sammy. The dude has money, is a legend
in his own right and doesnt need to be a cameo bassist
for Hagar.

If Hagar was the great buddy he claims to be, put Mike
in the band fulltime already !!!

MIKE has done his fair share of DAVE bashing over the years.........

He choose his path years ago.................

like the songs says...."If you take your pick, be careful how you choose it..."

Matt is rite.

Mikey's ass of choice belongs to the Capri'd Crusader.

Next stop for The Cheddar Half?

The WNBA championship halftime show.

Perfect venue if you ask me.

How could he NOT still be fuming over this turn of events?

Suppose it's decent of him to put a positive face on it in public, but even as much as he (obviously) enjoys Hagar's company, there's no way he's not hurting from being ejected from the whole deal before it even got started.

Nobody, not even MA himself, can convince me that he didn't want to be there on tour with them, and he'd still jump at it in a heartbeat if asked.

Oh c'mon man, like Ed and Al haven't?

Anthony has been far more tame in his criticism....

And Dave was giving more than he was getting...

Why does Mike get the blame for that? Oh, Ed let Dave back in for a tour with his kid? Excuse me, but I still think Ed is the biggest douche in festering vagina land...

And at least Mike has the balls to talk to the press once in a while...

Hyman Roth

lol...Dave was giving more than he was getting only because he could

talk circles around the others. A 30 second clip of Dave was enough

PWN4GE to cover 4 full interviews with the band.

Personally...I do not fault Mike for playing with Sammy.

What does Ed thnk...Mike can do nothing but sit why he gets his drunk face on?

Mike kept plalying...good for him...Ed is a douche for penalizing him for that.

I saw the tour and I would go again....Wolf looks out of place and those backing vocals are piped so nobody can say Mike is not missed.
