It's kind of a tongue in chek remark, but does anyone else notice the lack of activity on the site since the tour began????

You'd think there'd be more activity.

In the biggest of ironies, the reason this place existed for almost
ten years has happened. And when it did, our bulletin board software
is so outdated this site couldnt cope. Many people left because
its impossible to post. Mezro put his testicles on the chopping block
in an attempt to speed things up, but even Mez knows we need
Sarge to update the Vbulletin software...

I'm no expert but web server software is constantly updated,
and if you have some old crap PHP code, its gonna get treated
that way by the newer versions of the web server...

Hence the site acting like a 30 customer a day hooker after 30
Valiums..

The reunion did not kill the Army, but it did force the issue
of updating..

Which I believe is not far away...

Fuckit, I'll bloody update this shit myself (and pay for it) if
it takes too much longer... lol :D

But Sarge has given us instructions, and all we can do is wait..
Like we did for 20+ fucking years for Halen

Many will return here once the site works again.. It is afterall
*THE BEST VAN HALEN FORUMS* in existance..

I think a large part of it is how slow the site is. A lot of people don't want to bother.

But you also bring up a great point. The less friction in a band, the less interest on forums. The internet was made for bitching.

I think alot of people killed themselves when the VH reunion happened. Just the other day, I was wearing the shirt I bought at the Atlanta show....here in Atlanta. Like 12 hours into the day, some lady @ the liquor store came walking over to me....more like crawling. She had a bottle of Cabo tequila in her hand, and asked me if I could afford it. I told her that I could afford it, but preferred whiskey....like, pointed to the 1.75 of whiskey on the counter. Immediately, the bitch went belligerent..."how much did that shirt cost?" I told her that it cost 45 dollars, and I spent another ten on my second bumper sticker....at the Van Halen concert. The bitch proceeded to mumble about how she hated Van Halen witout Sammy Hagar. This bitch was pretty fucked up....I suggested buying some whiskey....said it might make her feel better. She said something about not wanting to feel better, so I suggested just ending it all. She goes, "youbda wantb me toooo kill myyyselfth?" I explained that I just wanted her to end the conversation...maybe take a bunch of pills.

I took alot of heat from everyone in line at the liquor store for that.

I think it's because the board is so damn slow, it pushes alot of people away.

Sometimes it takes me 10 minutes to make ONE single post.

It's funny how everyone hated Eddie and his brother for the first several years the board was open... now I find it hard to say ONE bad thing about him.

In a way... I kinda would like to see then get a fourth singer... just so all hell will break loose!!! LOL

The mass avilability of the internet in the mid-1990s coincided with the 1996 meltdown. Yes, there is a high interest level about what Dave has been up to in the last decade and an appreciation for his solo endeavours. However, I imagine one would be hard put to find many who honestly had no interest in seeing Roth reunite with the Van Halens again...or didn't think that much of Roth's best work was done within the context of Van Halen. Sites like Slawterhouse and the DDLR Newsdesk filled a cyberspace need for those interested in what Dave was doing (particularly since Roth kinda vanished off the map after 1996 for a few years in terms of mass media attention).

It was always fun (in a masochistic way) to watch the Van Halens post-1996 flounder, hem and haw, flailing about in desperation as they tried to relaunch a career and band without bringing Roth back into the fold. It was a huge part of the boards...when Van Hagar 2004 came to be, it injected a renewed sense of purpose; these guys suck, this isn't the reunion that should have happened, etc...

Same deal when the whole RnRHoF biz tanked, combined with the early mis-step of the Jan 2007 Roth/Van Halen publicity photo being released. This place went nuclear in terms of posts, speculation, etc.

Well, now SOME form of what so many around here wanted for so long has come to pass; Roth has rejoined the band. This SHOULD be a boon for the site, but it certainly does show signs of stagnation lately. Sometimes the software clearly hasn't been up to the task, which doesn't help in terms of seeing live fooatge of the band on the road, and there probably are more than a few who have been turned off by those recent troubles and aren't gonna bother returning until things get fixed. The moderate shakeup in the forum restructuring may have turned others off, as well...

Maybe the simplest explanation is that the band are out there doing it now, and there's really not much else that needs to be said. How many times can the 1996 debacle or speculation on MA's departure or thinks of that nature be rehashed on the boards and retain interest? The Front Line and Non are still shuffling around new threads at a brisk rate. Am assuming Hitchworld is still as...er...'hitchy' as ever. Possibly others have been spending more time at what I always considered to be the Army's brother site diamonddavidleeroth.com.

Far as Main and the Tour forums go, well, the essence is as it should be; various reviews and clips of the tour in progress.

Kinda miss the porn, though...

slow, no more pics forum, no more games, no more racist bastards, definitly yes: poeple are moving away.

also myspace and facebook are so much faster and so many people are on, it's hard to jive everything when you have to wait so long to post 1 word...

I miss the decadent day of bashing everything and anything all at once, the overall look of the place needs revamping, calderone should get a mandate to do so his work is awesome.

Yeah, I gave her a tip. I suggested that since she didn't want to feel better, she should quit talking to me and go chew up a bunch of sleeping pills. A couple of folks in line didn't like my suicide solution. I assured them that her dentures would probably fall out trying to get the lid off the pill bottle or some shit....like, she'd be a suicidal failure.

So that's what we get from your 10 minutes jztbcz?

An assload of hyphens and a "ditto?"

I'm not sure which is scarier....that the hyphens and "ditto" were all you could muster, or that you spent 10 frustrating minutes just trying to get it to post.

Anywho....as for me, there are a few things that have impacted my participation the Roth Army.

1. How fucking slow it is...

2. Hyman Roth

3. An influx of incredibly stupid people who have glommed on since the reunion began. New members are cool and all, but so few have actually brought something to the table...

4. And lastly, to a small extent, the reunion itself. To me, the Roth Army was about celebrating Diamond Dave and rebelling against the VH sisters and how they treated and regarded DAVE. Now that they're reunited and on tour, and all is (supposedly) "happy" in Camp Van Halen, it just doesn't have the same "feel."

Warham nailed it...the internet is for bitching. Sure, we can all sit around getting warm fuzzies by critiquing VH's last performance, and how Ed was having an "on or off" night, and how Dave's vocals still hold up, and how Wolfie can hold his own...

But the bottom line is that all of this was much more fun when discord was rampant and the future of Van Halen and David Lee Roth was still an unknown.

But I betcha if they suddenly put Michael Anthony back in the band after this tour is over, that activity here will ramp up.

He shoots he SCORES!!!!!!! Yeshhhhhhh

To post this .

3min to log on then the white screen of death .

Open up front page again 3.5 min.

5 min to get to this page.

By the time I can post sometimes the thrill is gone.

It also is somewhat silly that Mods chase off silly posters delete silly posts that are in actuality no more silly that the great informative -saving the world- "Info" posts that dominate this site and allow
posters who offend everybody a free ride.

My posts are generally metaphor and require three dimentional thought some around here have all the answeres name names like they are gods of the Info.

Fukk Em!

No one's a bigger Ed-head than myself, but even i miss getting my panties in a bunch over the exchanges at this site.
Granted, i never signed on much with a rebuttal, but believe me, i read what was said.

But i have noticed a change in character on these forums.
Peace has overtaken the valley, and i think we need some much needed friction in VH land (or at least a damn box-set!) to keep our tongues a waggin'.

It's sad to see classicVH.com go down once again to braindead hijackers, and it's disconcerting to see everyone getting bored at the army.

I miss the bitchin', man!

I actually found this site when I heard the rumours about Dave doing a reunion tour with the brothers and Wolfie.
I figured it would just be rumours after a couple of other tours never got started .
I read a couple threads and decided to add my two cents.
I said something not 100% anti Sammy and the shit was on .
One poster gave me friendly advice that Sammy is to be only despised here but the others were foaming at the mouth .
Cool , lesson learned , Sammy Hagar public enemy #1.
And I won't even go into detail about the dictators of the front line.
And then you had a period of time when the site would not accept new members .
Excellent timing early part of the tour when new fans would be looking
on the net for info about Dave and the band.
And the people on this site that feel they are somehow experts on every subject due to their lower member number.
Maybe if they weren't so hostile more people would participate.

When the dawn comes, you either keep on partying or go to bed.

Now that the Reunion Tour is on, it seems quite a lot of us quit bothering. But it didn't show at once, the Army kept extremely busy for a long while before there was this trough.

Add the page-to-page, forum-to-forum slllooooowness, and maybe a bit of negativity here and there...
Last but not least, the craziness that is a trademark of this site tends to be slowly vanishing. Quite a few key posters have been missing for that matter.
Luckily though quite a few have never left the House.

well i haven't seen em yet, going in baltimore and hershey.
Seats aren't that great, don't want to spend a truck load on the tix. I've seen Dave by himself on his tour right before the reunion there is no way this tour can be better then that show. I think a lot of Dave fans feel that way. If they changed the set list around or something that'd be something.

I've said it several times over the years, but IMO Van Halen blew it in 1996 and to a lesser extent in 2000. Of course the Army wasn't around in '96 but this place (the first Army incarnation anyway) was fuckin' hopping in '00. That plus our mass exodus from the Links in '00 had something to do with it also.

The hysteria from the public would have been twice as big if they would have "reunited" back then, with the original crew. The emotional appearance at the '96 VMA's should have shown them the light.

The reunion didn't kill the DLR Army, But for most of the oldtimers that have been here daily since '99-'00, I would rather call it a case of burnout. We've been through so many false alarms that when it really happened we were already fried.

Would it be different if the original lineup were on the road ?? Perhaps, but I will say that the Greensboro show that I saw with Pojo was quite an emotional night, especially when Dave and Ed hugged during "I'm the One". I can just imagine how choked up I would have been if Mike were there as well.
