The Song That Made You Wanna Play Guitar

Before you ever considered picking up a 6 string, there was that
moment when you heard a particular song or riff, and said, "I gotta do that!".

That moment in time when you become obsessed with the idea of playing guitar-forcing your parents to permanently move you to the basement or garage.

Whether it was a passing phase that you eventually lost intrest in,
or something that you continue today, there has to be that certain something that hooked you into plugging in and playing for the first
    time.

    What was it???

Queen's "Play The Game" got me interested.

"I'm The One" and "Hot For Teacher" made wanna practice my ass off... Still does.
Why settle for something you have, if it's not as good as something you're out to get?

For me it was indeed "Eruption", hands down. Didn't hear it 'til the early 80s...stopping playing as a kid (with dirt or whatever, but like I imagine everyone else in the world the 1st time) like "WTF??"
My Mom knew I was up for school on time in the mornings if that track came on from my room..
      Started playing soon thereafter...
      Never looked back...

Shock Me by Kiss, because Ace Frehley was the coolest guitarist for me as 12-year old kid. I think he's cool still by the way. Kickass-rock and roll guitar!

Aerosmith - No More No More - for the solo at the end of the song. It took me at least a month to get that one down.

AC/DC - Live Wire - The whole damn song! Rhythm/Lead/Bass...it doesn't really matter its all good.

Rush - Bastille Day - made want to give up playing a 6 string and play bass.

Kiss Alive - the whole album, but mostly the leads.

Have a vivid memory of sitting in front of my older cousin's record player with those huge old stereo headphones on for hours on end listening to those two albums from Kiss Alive over and over again, thinking it was the coolest stuff I'd ever heard (hey, I wasn't even ten yet, so what the fuck, eh?!).

That would have to be 'You don't remember, I'll never forget' by Yngwie. I was 12 when I heard that album - bloody blow my mind. It was about 6 months before I discovered EVH!

My older brother and his friends were delinquents-in order to be "cool", I did some things.

Like stealing 8-track tapes from wrecked cars towed into the
Sohio station across the street. While they were open during the day.

They never suspected a 7-8 or 9 year-old kid would be snatching
up bootlegs of "Paranoid" or James Gang.

BUT HEY!! Those mechanics were stealing, too! I found a stack of
8-tracks on top of a cigarette machine that I saw in a car the day before and was coming back to get. I grabbed those up, too.

That bunch included "Machine Head" and "Band Of Gypsies"

                          Machine Gun got me hooked.
At that age, it was like a religious experience.

                          The stealing shit ended quickly.
I opened up a Rambler that still had teeth, hair and blood all over
the place, so I said, "do it yourself".
(The Bill Cosby comedy tape wasn't worth it.)

For the record, KISS ALIVE! kept me intereted, and VHI made me
                            want to quit!

                            But I didn't.
