I play guitar in a band called the Treehouse Monks. We play classic rock covers in my garage and these are guys i've been hanging out with since we were teens.

I have seven month stand-in gig coming up in April, in a group called Coverdrive.

AFAIK, no original tunes.

I had a band called Shine Box a few years back.... the rock scene down in S.Florida is pretty dead. Now I use my Mac to record new song ideas. I'd love to get back into playing out though...

I've played for years in the midlands of England with various shite cover bands.

Not doing anything at the moment though.

My last singer died of AIDS, and the one before that I last seen at Hollywood Memorial funeral for some glamrock drummer we knew.

He still dresses like like he's going on a Faster Pussycat audition. Same clothes probably, too. I have many fond memories of us stumbling down Sunset and trying to keep him from begging money off people for booze to keep his high going.

Being in a band is easy if you got a station wagon or a van, and wanna drive around picking up everybody then pay for rehearsals out of your own pocket.

I won't do that anymore.. like these fuckers have the world owing them a favor and they deserve patronage.

My number one bitch about being in a band is watching your band drink or order pizza then stiff you on gas money or rehearsal "aw come on dude" fuck that!

Yeah, the not kicking in thing isn't cool. My last singer couldn't understand why we wouldn't let him have his cheat-sheets on a $8 children's music stand with the floodlight they sell for the elderly to attach to their books onstage...Fuck that...

Ha, for my last band I had to drive 800 miles to NYC for rehersals. The tours were grueling (45 shows in 47 days), and the bass player kept all monies for the sale of merchandise (featuring images of his brother who died in '93). I didn't even get my picture on the fliers for the first year.

Did I mention that the drummer was nearly always naked, and always schizophrenic.

I'm going nuts over here, need to get something going. Playing that thing in July just aggravated/reinforced it.
The drummer from my last cover band and I are in the initial stages of throwing a new one together...bouncing basic set lists around and looking for a bassist and singer...hopefully one without a music stand with a floodlight :Loser: this time....

That drummer from the fest, he's incredibly good. I checked those myspace videos from the band in the 80's and I don't get the whole "bill" thing.

They should be celebrating the drummer! And he's still alive..

I get with a few buddies here and there and show them songs Ive been writing and singing and they help me put music and record them . I call my little nonexistent band Mr Slamdawg. Its all for fun, may do some internet shit with it someday. Got tired of dealing with a band, and some asshole who is tone deaf trying to tell me how to sing, takeing away the joy I feel from doing just that.Or "you can't play that,it doesn't fit our 'style'."
Its better to just get with someone you can trust and elimnate factor asshole from your music.

I'm still a member of Mountain Wood, a southern rock band from the SF Bay area... although we went on a short break back in July of 1985 after 3+ years of touring/club performances 7 days a week... we still haven't decided we've had enough time away from it yet. We'll be back bigger and better than before...

I jam here and there & do some engineering projects/live sound here and there. Not really interested in doing any full time work with a band anymore. Don't have the patience or tolerance to deal with a bunch of childish adults/artists... I'd rather spend that energy on my kids...

That sucks, sorry to hear that, dude. :(
I popped a metacarpal in my right hand a few years back. The docs told me if they casted it, I was going to lose a lot of mobility in my pinky, which was not an option, as I use it for volume swells - so I refused to let them put a cast on my hand.

Splinted it for the whole 6 weeks, taking it off every few days and using it to ensure I retained mobility. Which hurt like hell! :pullinghair: Fortunately it healed almost perfectly, except that knuckle is now pretty much flat as a pancake...still works though!

the moderator to do his job if the thread went off-topic.

But in your world, a moderator's job is to give his password to other trolls and get canned for it, so your opinion on how Matt & I do our jobs here is worthless. Just like you! :hee:

How?..

While stationed in Phoenix we went up to Flagstaff for a winter break one weekend. We got stupid trashed and still went sledding at 1am. Well everythign turned to ice. I went down and hit a tree. I had put my left hand out (stupid) and busted my hand to shreds, wrist, and elbow.

Lesson learned: never try to stop your body weight moving at a fast speed with your hand. The tree one.

But on a side note, the Jack Daniels numbed the pain, and the next day my left hand was 3 times its normal size.

The Air Force basically told me that it was the only option. So i was fucked either way. I had the mobility afterwards, but now over the years, it just doesnt work. Heck even working with small parts like screws for a laptop is a chore. The dexterity in that hand is not what it once was.

Yeah, once-broken bones do seem to get arthritic more quickly, even prematurely. Unfortunately, that's probably why you're losing dexterity over time, as bad as that break was....:( Again, my condolences, dude.

But I can totally see how that'd happen -the busted pinky still hurts occasionally, and an ankle I broke when I was 19 still bothers the shit out of me occasionally. Sucks.

Can barely make a chord on the guitar now a days. To much arthritis from a bad accident in my left hand. I had broke the metacarpols in my left hand in 8 places. So now even swinging a baseball bat is a chore.

I do miss playing, in a band. Those were always fun times.

Oh man I feel for you. Have you looked into the Arthritis Foundation to see if they can help? I don't have arthritis (yet) but my hands swell after playing 2 and 3 nights in a row on top of all the regular rehearsing.

I have my solo thing that is mainly recording right now. Danny Isaacs Band plays 4 hour nights almost every weekend. On top of that, my other band (Album Cover) is playing Queensryche's Operation Mindcrime in it's entirety in a few weeks. Rehearsals are long and there is a lot of homework for it too. Most nights, my wife has 2 small buckets of ice water waiting on me when I get home. I sit there from 4-5 a.m. soaking my hands, drinking beer and laughing at Rev. Kerney Thomas on BET. Hands usually still hurt on Sunday though.

Here is a version of Mr. Brownstone DIB recorded for shits and giggles: MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=5EJPYL25)

I'm in a band !

Quit the Murder junkies last year and am writing and recording demos for a new record with my old band Jackass (yes, we were called that before the tv show and no, we're not that rotten awful stinking shitty band from LA*).

Here's some MJs videos.

In this clip, you'll not here much in the way of vocals, but the guitar is pretty decent sounding for cam audio. Also, when I do finally make the frame you'll see me using the one handed tapping technique I learned from J. Hale and Gar back when they used to be in love. They were my parents, and I'm just all tore up inside about all this fighting. Can't you guys just get along for once, for me ? It's my birthday next week.

And here's some slop from '06, so drunk.

Jackass was around from about 2000 till 2005 when I joined the Murder Junkies. We played the Clifton and Downtown bars, the fireworks, Oktoberfest, and the like. We did a little midwest/east coast touring, and released a CD in '03 that did pretty well for an indie lable (my own, Mulepower). We also were the default opener for 80s metal bands back then and did gigs at Top Cats, Southgate House, and Sudsy's with the likes of Faster Pussycat, Every Mother's Nightmare, Pretty Boy Floyd, Kings X, etc. and newer rock acts like The Datsuns, Buckethead, and McKlusky.

Joining the MJs put a stop to that though. With the fairly constant touring it was hard keeping it together at home, playing music was tough to organize, as was finding work for short periods in between tours, so I got out.

Jackass is back, in a matter of speaking, we're playing, but I'm looking for a second guitarist who plays slide to replace the guy on lap steel that we had previously. He just couldn't keep up on the guitar when the steel wasn't in use. I'm looking for a traditional "lead guitar player" to handle different voicings, fills and licks during the vocal, and that sort of thing while I sing. So far the search is going slow.

Meanwhile, I'm writing and recording for a new record to be released in the spring. Here's a brand new one that I recorded in the practice spot with Pro Tools 7LE. The bass player sings it cause it's more his style vocally than mine, except the choruses... moi. I'd say it's a pretty good demo anyway, but the finished product should rock pretty hard. Here's a link to a soundclick page where I hosted the tune, if you are so inclined to listen.

It's hard enough to keep 4 or 5 guys focused for long periods of time. Outside bullshit from wives and girlfriends are kryptonite to bands.

HYS,

Question. Is the Cincy area supportive of more R&R or country?
I know the Cleveland area has a raging hard on for classic rock.
What is the support for a good rock band like in Cincy?

Yeah, I'm back in Cincinnati.

The scene here really is about the indie, garage thing with a helping of country and roots rock. Bands like The Buffalo Killers, Wussy, The Chocolate Horse, The Heartless Bastards (recently relocated in Austin) are cincy based and doing pretty well for themselves.

Of course there's a little bit of everything going on, but hard rock and metal are not the most popular genres in town.

Do you have to download that track ? I thought you could listen to it there.

John Depends on where you go, I guess. I haven't done the club thing since......fuck, I can't remember exactly. 3 or 4 years?

If you have a diverse setlist, you can go anywhere. Or nowhere if you so desire. If you stick with one style, you'd better find a booking agent and be willing to travel. The difference is how much scratch you keep at the end of the night/weekend/week or whatever. You'd do it for free at first, then....$$$$$$$$$.
