Sounds like Satriani's trying to find "the Brown Sound". Wouldn't it be ironic if Chickenshit sounded more like Van Halen than any of the Van Hagar records did?

No, it sounds like Joe Satriani playing thru a Joe Satriani amplifier, the JSX.

How about if they just write something cool that rocks, that I would want to buy. I buy what I like, I hate Hagar but I like metal guitar which hopefully if it doesnt' suffer under the girth of Hagar's fat beachball headblubbering I would check it out.

I enjoyed an HSAS tape once, but that was before the Redrimmed Rocker fucked up my favorite local band's sound forever. Still like the tape - haven't played it in a decade - but I like Neal Schon and his playing is great on it.

It is really annoying when he gives the shoutout "talk to me chief, is that that new thing Joe?" horseshit like they've played together as a band forever. If I'm so unfamilliar with it, why is Sammy so familliar with Joe?

Thats not right, from the get-go. Word to Sammy: write good music and stop being such a fake it fucks up the vibe YOU ARE NOT DAVID LEE ROTH you do not get permission to do that.

Maybe it's the fact I'm on a Roth message board but that sounded like a well recorded jam session that any bar has done in basements all across the world. Nice groove but just plain nonsense when Sammy starts to sign or rap or whatever the fuck he's trying to do........you're in your 60's Jesus Christ act like it........you're not some up and coming young band.........fad following......lame.

Sadly it's Chad Smith.....a Michigan boy and a great drummer, albeit not groundbreaking but an old school funk drummer trapped in a modern rock based band.........why Chad oh why!

That clean intro sounds out of time and poorly played.....very suprising from JOE. Once it kicks in though, I dig it....sammys rap and all ( I think he says Joe one too many times though).

You didn't miss much.

Sounds like shit.

Joe is a great guitarist, but, IMO, the dude hasn't done the guitar any justice since 1989 ("Flying in a Blue Dream").

His masterpiece remains 'Surfing with the Alien', though. And that was released in 1987.

Thus, I would say Joe is as much of a has-been as Hagar.

Though I'd argue whether Hag was a "been" in the first place. :D

He works with Glenn Hughes as well, and they put out a fantastic album last year. He also had the good sense to say that red asshole must've been drunk when he compared them to Zeppelin.

As for Chickenfoot, I am disappointed in all of you. I won't pollute my ears with that shit.

Sounds like a stylistic retread...nice to see Mike's bass skills have improved over the years, though (listening to this, well, DAMN but does MA have that RWTD bass line down fucking pat or WHAT?!)

Suppose it's a bit unfair to say the whole thing sucks based on that brief audio snippet...then again, it is Hagar we're talking about...why does he constantly try to pull a Roth with that spoken-word, conversing-in-the-studio bullshit? That nonsense was tired as far back as the first track on the 5150 album, and sounds just as hokey and forced a half-century later.

It's almost as if they sat around and tried to come up with the lamest name for a band they could...

For me, Satriani is definitely the odd man out here, as in "what the fuck is he DOING with these tosspots?"

I mean, to go from teaching Steve Vai, to backing Jagger, to playing with Deep Purple, to doing G3 tours with Vai and Malmsteen...to this?

I don't know where to start on that....

Maybe Zeppelin's set at Live Aid, when Plant's voice was cracking, Page was completely smacked up out of his mind, they had Phil Collins AND Tony Thompson on drums, and they couldn't stay in time with each other, and some hired goon was on bass while JPJ played keyboards.

And even THAT was better than Chickenshit. At least a little.....

I may be the odd man out here but I think CF is more than worth checking out. I'm sure I'll get blasted for this but It's just my opinion.

Now I'm with most of you on your take on Sammy. I don't care for his solo music pre or post VH at all. I dig some Montrose and this is kinda like a better version of Montrose to me. Not many bands makes music like this nowadays and Satch is a great player who is even better live. I think it's worth checking out and I'm excited to catch it when they come to Philly.

With Sam..when Dave left I died two deaths lol First Dave was gone and then when I heard it was Sam I died all over again. All I could think of was his lame solo music and awkward red jump suits. A second class B-list artist replacing a legend is how I felt. The 5150 walk was heart heartbreakingly gay as was some of the music they made. I can't honestly say it all sucked but compared to CVH it wasn't close. Dave brought the attitude, balls, and cool to VH. Sam imo doesn't have any of that though he does have a good voice.
He may look like the love child of Mel Brooks and Bette Midler but he can sing.

That being said the CF tunes are great so far for what they are! You all really hate them??? All of you do? Satch is huge ingredient in this for me. Chad has really impressed me too. Also very glad to see Mike in a real project that kicks some ass instead of the cabo bs. Well that's my opinion. I'm looking forward to it. I'm more looking forward obviously to more from VH but this is a little old school appetizer until then.

I wonder how Ed feels about CF?
