Anyone ever play one of these? I want to buy a cheap guitar to fuck around with as my spring project. Try my hand at painting, tweaking, and just seeing what I come up with. There are a lot of other mini's out there, but I thought maybe the fender one might be a bit better quality. I just wish they offered it with a maple fret board. Thoughts?

Specifically looking for a mini?

Do you already have a full-size guitar..

Pretty much. I have 2 full size electrics & 1 acoustic. I bought the mini Epiphone Les Paul 2 years ago & can't put it down. Fun as hell. Plus I've never been that good a player to begin with. Can mimic a lot of older metal rhythm's, and maybe a couple of easier solos, but that's the extent of it. Mostly enjoy just learning & playing some cool riffs, like the beginning of Unchained & Dance The Night Away.

One of my electrics is the first I ever got. A crappy Fender wannabe Hondo guitar. I could make that a project guitar, but I'm hesitant to change anything on it just due to the sentimental value of it. Like the ding on the head stock from trying to flip it in the around-the-back loop over my shoulder like Vai did in the old videos. Problem was, my bedroom ceiling was only 8 feet high. DOH!

My 8 yar old has one and.. you don't want it.

Try a xaviere or even a Squier Bullet.

The small nut width and the 1/2 size body on the Squier Mini make is really difficult for me to play.

I've had this guitar since it came out: straight ass neck, builtin amp and speaker, wraparound bridge-tailpiece, lotta fun for a mini guitar and affordable.

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/z9y7nBdMZKw&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/z9y7nBdMZKw&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

The pickup though, was weak but I fixed that by getting P-bass screws and extra foam to stuff under the pickup to jack it up higher and remount it closer to the strings.

Volume nearly doubled doing that trick. With all sincerity I love love love the Clownfish guitar! It has serious action but so small it's an easy-to-reach goof around guitar.

You'll pick it up for 5 minutes and a half hour will go by!

I don't know why lately I keep double-posting: is there some kind of speed control some dick Mod put on as a buffer to keep me from posting too much?

i'd go with either a pawn shop smasher, or one of those $100 Rondo Music deals.

Wow, paranoid much? And it's "Mr. Dick" to you. :tongue0011:

I can't see owning a mini guitar (usually tuned to G, right?), unless my cover band decided to do "Little Guitars" or something...lol.

Want a cool spring project? Get a full-size neck and body (you can catch Musikraft Alder Strat bodies going for $100 unfinished on Ebay usually), and go nuts...;)

No, they're standard tuned.

I felt the same way. Then I purchased one of these for under $50 a couple years ago just for fun and it makes a good conversation piece. But I love it. You pick it up just to check it out and suddenly you've been playing an hour on it. The sound is actually not bad either.

Interesting, the ones we sold at GC when I worked there were mini-scale and tuned differently. I remember figuring out "Little Guitars" with one on lunch one day...lol.

And for $50, why not? :D

Cato, what is the best mini that you can tune in E ??
and stays in tune after more than 3 chords ?

(I bet I asked you this 100 times) Sorry, early alzheimers...
Or are all the mini's basically tuned to C ?

I use the purple package Earnie Ball for my mini guitars and they are all tuned in E.
but the only useful mini is the LP. I have no negative feeling when I play it. the others are toys.

it's the Champ 12. my red one is pretty rare. mostly it's black.

My 5 y.o. daughter has one of the mini-strats. It's really crappy. It fits her hand and stays in tune though. The wood and parts are shit.

Thanks Cato :ashamed:
(I've been a cotton brain just recently)

I've never seen any mini Edwards in guitar shops in Oz. :(
I just read a bunch of reviews for their full size Les Paul
copies and the reviews were great. I love my Jap strat.
A mini LP that actually stays in tune would be ace
when Im forced onto a plane !

(Promise I wont forget the name this time !!)

I went with the full size Squire Bullet instead of the mini. Surprisingly it was $0.04 cents cheaper. Weird. Just got it today and it plays really well. Feels pretty solid and stays in tune. Not bad at all for under $100. The neck has a great feel to it.

Dude, those go for a pretty penny on eBay. The cheaper Epiphone Pee Wee's are around $100, but the better one you have seems much more hard to find here.

I've seen these on ebay and they make a lefty version...

I was thinking about the metallic gold Goldfish lefty...

They look very well made...

The Epiphone Pee Wee is totally crap, as you know. poor craft work, cheap wood material, and the neck scale is too short....it's a guitar-shaped toy.

I've been collecting mini guitars for years and Edwards MINI LP is the best MINI I've ever owned. very useful.

it's made in Korea only for the Japanese market. so I see it quite often on a Japanese auction website.....
